Rear Brake Discs and Pads recommendation please

Post by ad_182_uk »

Cars on 23k, pretty sure the rears have never been changed.

There is also light rust on the hub.

What are the recommendations for rear brake discs and pads that are equal or superior to OE quality.

Also, does anybody know a good garage that will do the brakes and clean up and protect the hub?

Thanks!

Sorry, no recommendations but are you sure they need changing? I’ve sold VW’s with 35-40k miles on the clock that I’ve owned from new that are still on the original pads and discs and they still had plenty of life left in them (admittedly I’m not heavy on my brakes).

As for the rust - I think it’s actually the centre part of the brake disc rather than the hub. Corrosion isn’t unusual (was the norm on the mk7 / mk7.5 Golf) as the discs are cast iron and the centre part usually only gets a thin layer of paint. I’d remove the wheels remove the rust with a wire brush, mask up and then apply a couple of coats of paint - something like Hammerite. If you do change the rear discs then there’s no need to paint that centre part of the disc.
