2018 skoda rapid auto headlights + CH/LH

Post by Ondis989 »

Hi all,
So I have a 2018 skoda rapid(NA) top line and would like to retrofit auto headlights. I read through multiple auto headlight thread for polo 6r polo/polo sedan but there are a few quirks which I need help in figuring out. I also looked at ciclo’s pdf with wiring and it was very helpful, but again I am lost on little details.

My current car configuration, which is the root of all differences, as most upgrades included 090 max, but I already seems to have higher bcm.

BCM: 7E0 937 089 B
Oem rain light sensor with auto wipers
headlights controlled via bcm
Parking lights function with indicator stalk when parked
Manual CH with high beam flasher and opening door
17 pin headlight connector with 10 wires

As you can see, I have some features of bcm max and I assume not a lot of wiring will be required(hopefully). According to the wiring picture in the pdf, my connector differs slightly as below. Compared, I have total 10 wires. And then 11 is yellow(not white) wire, and 4 wire is missing so I don’t know what should I do with the relay connections. I assume that is a crucial part of the circuit.

I have more questions as I haven’t got a better understanding for this,
Is relay required to be separated into relay carrier? Do I use my original relay or need new in my case?

Thank you for taking the time to read through this, I asked a few retrofit shops locally but they were charging a lot for the harness etc, and unfortunately ciclo has retired from making looms(an amazing service to the community), so I do not want to bother him unnecessarily and try to do it myself.

it makes sense that number 4 is missing (terminal 56 power supply); your stalks are very likely already in T6/VW Up! FL configuration. So you don't need the relay for the headlights/high beams.
You can install the 10-pin light switch easily now, just make the conversion from 17 to 10 pin. It's very easy in your case.

Thanks for the reply. Good to know it’s a simple process. I checked the t6 stalks, mine appear to be the same, with cruise controls on left and mfd controls on right.

I had a few more questions, apologies if they’re obvious ones
1.Is this the connector I need? “10 pin connector F 191972725” (I’m not sure because in the guide it’s a red connector)
2.So following the guide, I will have 9 wires connected to the 10 pin connector, should the remaining black wire(pin 1 in original connector) be left isolated?
3.Is there a part no. for male 17 pin connector? I will de-pin original if required, but thought of making a converter instead using this.
4. In coding, I need to enable CH,LH and assistant driving lights?

1 doesn't matter as long as the male and femaie connector are a match
2 the fat black one goes to T2 connector
3 no there is not
4 yes and many more

I would still need to wire a relay for the fog lamps right? I assume the oem switch bridges 2 and 8 for front fogs, as the 10 pin switch doesn’t have a slot for “contact X” and the relay bridges 2 and 8. I initially thought I didn’t need this relay, hence the confusion.

Re: Q2, following the wiring diagram, the fat black goes to t2 which also has t56 power supply(slot 4 oem). Since I’m missing this wire t2 connector will only have one wire(slot 1 oem),the fat black wire which goes to 10 pin switch slot 4 from the coupling. Should I connect this wire directly to 10 pin slot 4? Or will I have a headlight relay from factory and need to add the wire there? I’m completely lost regarding this.

Thanks for bearing with me iichel and answering my questions patiently. I’ll look into the required coding changes too. I guess I need to add a VCDS to the parts list.

I thought my specific wiring looked like this, I assume it’s wrong then?

Are your fog lights with static cornering lights? If so, you don't need the relay. If the fog lights are powered directly via light switch, you do need the relay.

So, my car didn’t come from the factory with static cornering lights. I enabled them using carista. I cannot find the picture of my light switch wires, but terminal 2 and 8 are thicker wires. Is there any way I can test if the light switch is powering the foglamps?

Then your bcm controls fog lights. No relay needed

Hi,
It’s been a while and I’ve been slowly procuring required items for this task. And gained a bit knowledge with research too. I was wondering if the pin outs(from ciclo’s pdf) is universal for all auto light switches? I saw a golf 7 switch on eBay and found that in 2020 models of my car has factory fitted auto lights(5J5941531 RIV). I would like to install that if possible. Thank you.

Also out of curiosity, could you tell me what is pin2(named contact X foglamp) in original t17 connector? And what it’s function is? I was not able to find info and not knowing it is bothering me lol
