Hi, I am trying to resurect a 2000 Polo 1.4 MPI that has been parked up for years (mostly dry stored due to a sunroof drain pipe leak).
As the description says I have dash warning lights coming on, as soon as the battery is connected, before the key is in the ignition.
Has anyone experienced this or have any idea what could be causing it?
Dash warning lights on without a key in the ignition
Re: Dash warning lights on without a key in the ignition
I have now tried unplugging the ignition switch and cleaning the body and engine earth points. Neither made any difference and the warning lights still come on as soon as the battery is connected.
A replacement furl pump has got the car running again and when it is most of the warning lights go out. But once the ignition is switched off they come back on.
Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried an OBD diagnose? If there are faultcodes stored in the ECU, this might help you to track the source of your problems. Your ECU might be toasted. If you need to swap the ECU, you need de key and ignition barrel as well from the donor car, otherwise it will not start. Or you can try to have the immo removed from the (new) ECU alltogether with VCDS.
