PDC 8K parking system Retrofit


As I wrote in another thread about the PDC 8K I am preparing to install this system.

I have already collected the materials and the wiring.
I bought a used parking module from a similar car to have the correct parameters.





I bought a complete 8K kit from aliexpress for GOLF 7 though, since it was easier to find ready-made wiring at a good price.



I bought a dashboard switch for the system as well as other small things (clips, etc.)



The wiring I bought is made for the GOLF7, so the PDC unit on the GOLF 7 is at the front of the car, not at the back like the Polo.
I chose to install the unit at the front inside the dash.





I drilled 2 holes and used some sheet metal to screw it in place.




So i am ready for the next step, the wiring.

Wiring

The PDC needs connections to CanBus Low % High, +12V to SC30 fuse and grounding (-)



For power (+) and (-) the process is easy, We don't need to mention anything. We find the cable from the SC30 fuse and a point for grounding.
I decided to "make" an new spot for grounding.



For the CanBus connection i use the Power steering unit connector.



I made the connection to pins 1 and 2 from the T3 plug.
I also used a 2pin plug because I haven't installed all the wiring yet, so it's like waiting for a connection.




I use one of those clips for the wire rooting, there are absolutely perfect for this job, i really love them.

For the 6R (PQ25) I will connect them to the same power and ground as the footwell/dome lights (under BCM control, T73a/65 - T73a/4), as I indicated in the thread dedicated to my 6R. It is the most plausible option.

For the 6C (PQ26), as on the MQB platform, there may be free BCM pins that can be configured for these Entry lights.
In any case, I 'suppose' they could also be powered from the footwell/dome light connections.

I have order the same LED lights as you, from Alixpress and i am waiting for them to arrived.
I am wondering if something like that is also suitable for the same purpose.



I don't know if they fit inside the mirror because I see that there is generally not much space. Their depth is 2cm, what is your opinion?

I think 2cm depth is about the limit of what is possible.
Those LED lights might fit but I don't think they will fit perfectly.

Remember that the lights I installed are a luxury detail that help define the contour of the vehicle in dark places, i.e. entry lights, not puddle lights.
In well-lit garages they are useless, just like the original entry lights on the Golf 7.5.

I did the button installation.

A lot of mess for such a small job.



I ran the wires for the button, behind the dashboard, I found it more appropriate so that they don't disturb under the steering wheel (which was my other option.

Puddle mirror light


I'm gathering materials for this project, I'm going to do it like Fernando (with the AUDI door handle lights)

I don't remember, mainly because I used to do the wiring at the time of installation (custom).

However, with the images you already know from my threads, with a good 3D imagination and with a simple meter you can take the distances with everything installed, the error will not exceed 20cm.
So cut 20cm extra...or something else in case of deep doubt.

ΟΚ, you are right.
I was just thinking that if you knew the dimensions it would be ideal. Of course, someone can roughly calculate the distance. For example, I say that the length of the cable from the door plug to the mirror plug (my red line) is about 1.7 meters.


I have already procured the LED lights and the smallest plugs that I believe the VW group has.



Do you think this plug will fit inside the mirror?

Mirror Puddle Lights


Yesterday, i did the installation of mirror puddle light.

I was prepared with materials, lamps, etc. and had consulted quite a few of Fernando's threads about it.
I chose exactly the solution he suggested and proceeded.
The electrical connection was made to the cables of the ceiling lights.
According to the electrical diagram:



T73c/69 is the +
T73a/68 is the -

I use the No1 and No20 free pin spaces.

I removed the mirror to make the process of installing the LED light and wiring easier.




I disassembled the mirror and made the hole (Φ10)




I tried to get the outer edge of the lamp as close to the level of the base as possible, I didn't want it to stick out too much. I don't know if it will last like this, the bulb was wedged in well and the hot glue fixed it.

I put the mirror in place and did a test. Everything went well.

Aliexpress has provided solutions for many things, the Chinese manufacture what one can imagine, but it has destroyed us because we always see something and the desire arises to acquire it or use it as the next project.

Yesterday, i found same time to procced with the PDC 8K installation.
I did the part of the wiring from the Park Module to the front bumper.

The job was nothing special, the wiring had to pass from the interior to the engine compartment.
The point is known, behind the wiper mechanism.
The wipers were removed, the plastic cover along the front windshield (plenum chamber cover), the plenum chamber bulkhead and finally the wiper mechanism. This revealed the rubber through which the wiring had to pass.

Unfortunately, I didn't finish installing the wiring because I ran into a problem.



I broke the plastic part (plenum chamber cover) when I was trying to remove it. The weather was cold, the plastic was quite hard due to the low temperature and it broke when I tried to remove it (very easily). To finally remove it, I heated it with a heat gun, once it warmed up a little, it came off relatively easily, but the damage was done.

So I took the time to fix it, I couldn't leave the car without this cover. It seems that I did a good job, in welding the plastic, with metal steel springs and using a special gun that heats them up enough to melt the plastic and penetrate it.



I installed it normally and put the rest in their place.
Conclusion, be careful when the temperatures are low, plastics are particularly fragile. It is better to warm them up a little with a heat gun or some other way.

The work of welding the plastic with the metal steel springs/staples looks good.

The plenum chamber covers and 'the rubber seal on the windshield' where they fit are particularly delicate, care must be taken when using heat guns on these parts.
Check that there are no water leaks, they tend to soak the mats on rainy days...or when washing the car profusely. It is advisable to install a new plenum chamber cover.

Here in Greece it is raining in the last 10 days almost every day.
It seems that my polo didn't stand the moisture and showed the first symptoms.




It seems I will have something to deal with this weekend too.

The ventilation capacity of the headlights is limited.
