Re-Post Problems With App Connect/Car Play
Re-Post Problems With App Connect/Car Play
Hi Folks
This has been driving me mad since I took delivery of the car nearly two months ago and am re-posting just in case anyone can help me solve it
When I get in the car it automatically connects the bluetooth to my phone (which I would expect) whereby I can make phone calls in the normal way but as soon as I try App Connect and it asks me to select a technology (Apple) and I select my phone it disconnects the bluetooth on my phone so I can't even make phone calls (until I re-connect in the phone setting) so basically at the moment I can't use apple car play at all. Weirdly the only function in apple car play itself that works when the bluetooth is disconnected is the phone app????
It just doesn't work either via Blue Tooth or using a cable
Is anyone else having/had this problem and is there a way of fixing it. I did the latest update the other day but it didn't fix it!!!!
Cheers

Re: Re-Post Problems With App Connect/Car Play
I had similar problems. I now only use a wired connection (VW lead), and plug the phone in, then turn the ignition on and start the car.
That works pretty much every time.

Hi Pete
Many thanks for the suggestion, it's very much appreciated, I have just tried doing that but unfortunately it didn't work for me. I just can't use App Connect and it's really annoying given that it's a feature that should just work and that we shouldn't have to use workarounds at all (even if they don't work for me) and going to the dealer is such a PITA and even then they might not be able to fix it.

Re: Re-Post Problems With App Connect/Car Play
Hi Ian,I had a similar issue with my Samsung phone as in i would have to use a USB cable continuously in order to use Android Auto.I tried my wife's identical phone but a different network provider and there were no issues at all.Might be something to consider in order to rule out a handset issue as opposed to the car?

Have you done a reset of the infotainment system ?

I mean the "hold the power button down until it resets itself" approach. I think that worked on mine - it seems to universal across VWs / Skodas etc.

Re: Re-Post Problems With App Connect/Car Play
I'm confused with this thread.
VW used to have Bluetooth (Music) and Bluetooth (Phone), then Apple CarPlay and Android Auto became a thing. Since this, once you select Apple CarPlay the device disconnects from Bluetooth (Phone) but keeps your phone connected as CarPlay and you can make calls through CarPlay using the phone / contacts app.
Are you saying that CarPlay doesn't allow you to use your phone?

Yup basically it doesn't work as it's supposed to. When I use App Connect the only thing that works is the phone app in Car Play and then I can't use the VW system to make calls because it loses the bluetooth connection.... very annoying but the hassle of going to the dealer for something so minor is a right PITA. Looks like I'll have to thoughPO10ASH wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2024 5:53 pm I'm confused with this thread.

Re: Re-Post Problems With App Connect/Car Play
Pretty certain this is standard behaviour, you can only connect another phone (bluetooth phone) that isnt using CarPlay at the time. I do this for my work mobile while my personal uses CarPlay.Ian T wrote: ↑Sat Sep 28, 2024 4:30 pmYup basically it doesn't work as it's supposed to. Re: Re-Post Problems With App Connect/Car Play
Basically, the standard phone connection doesn’t work if you have CarPlay activated.
You have to use the phone app within CarPlay
This is standard.
