Re: New GTI

Post by martinp »

I've had my gti for a week now, everything about the car is great, although the standard sound system is pretty average.

One thing i've not worked out yet is how to get the wing mirrors to open when i unlock the car. Now i've gone into the central console and tick on the option to open the mirrors on unlocking the car, and left the wing mirror adjustment controller in the correct position, but they still won't open on unlocking the car.

Any suggestions before i take a trip to VW?

Mine don't open until you switch the ignition on which i think is right.

Saves them opening and closing everytime you unlock/lock the car.

I've set mine to open when the ignition switches on. Although on a few occasions, the mirrors have randomly opened when I've unlocked the doors.

On picking the car up the dealer mentioned the wing mirrors should have opened on unlocking the car.

Now the first time we unlocked the car they opened. After being shown round the car, fiddling with various controls and going for a test drive, we got back and locked the car. After a a quick good bye i unlocked the car and the mirrors didn't open, the dealer said they should have and most probably just not set up via the centre console. Having driven home and and ensured the car was set up correctly it didn't sort the issue. Having said that, yesterday they randomly open when unlocking the car. Confusing! Something can't be right.

I think you have to double-press the opening button on the remote to get them to unfold before you get in the car. I think this also works in conjunction with only opening the drivers door on one press and all the doors on two presses. Personally I don't want them opening until I turn the ignition on anyway :)

Another tip - if you hold the remote's 'open' key down for a long time it will also open all the windows automatically. This works in reverse too - if you've forgotten to close a window just hold the 'close' button down for a while.

Yes holding the remote key down opens my windows and sunroof all at the same time. Very James Bond!

I picked the GTI up this morning! (Quick arrival considering I only ordered in early May) Done 35 miles so far - really impressed with everything about it!!
Out of interest, the oil temperature runs at 105 C (which seems high) when fully up to temp - is this too high or normal on the GTI?

BTW, if anybody is looking for a Polo in the East Mids, I would strongly recommend going to Dave Cooper at Leicester VW - he couldn't do enough for us and really knew what he was on about (unusual for the casual VW salesman)

Glad your car arrived swiftly and its going great.I don't own a car yet and can't comment 100%,but the Polo GTI i tested ran at 105 degrees celsius when up to temp. Seemed to sit happily at that temp.

Steigerz, beautiful car :) Which colour is it, Pure White or Oryx White?

My build date was just confirmed for week 38, with delivery date mid October. Cannot wait!

Evening All

Been lurking around looking at things on here for the past week so I thought it was time I joined, I ordered mine on July the 25th, went for it in flat black with only the DCC sports pack, my current car is a Peugeot 207 GTI (bag of nails) so only a slight upgrade on power but in terms of gadgets and reliability its a significant upgrade (how can a top spec pug not come with an aux port?!) got an unconfirmed build week of 39, taking it with a pinch of salt but my dealer has said 12-14 weeks, it's only a 3 door, from what I've read here that sounds about right with the 5 doors taking considerably longer, let's just hope the pug doesn't blow up before I take delivery, I've only owned it 9months and it was a dream when I got it, I've never known a car go down hill so fast! I was warned about french cars - never again! Had vauxhalls in the past too and they were both terrible- hoping for better things!

Apologies for the essay - Jack

Hi Jack an welcome. Yeah always been wary of French cars for this reason and ur experience has proved to point. Hope ur GTi arrives quickly. Some of us have has stupid long wait times and others not so. The Polo GTi seems to be impressing all that purchase them so should be good .
