Kit was on for about 2 months before anything happend , so wernt nothing to do with that, think they finally put it down to a dogde connection in the loom or somthing a long the lines !

I've been in a zzzzz meeting all day so the boyf had to chase this up with the stealers for me.

They originally told me that it had only had one previous owner (seymour) but after speaking to a VW employee friend - we've now found out that the first 3,000 miles as a demo car was deemed as the 1st owner. This means that I will in fact be the 3rd owner....not a big problem maybe - but x3 owners in 18months looks a bit questionable on the V5 when I come to sell it later on.
The fact that they lied pi*ses me off! Like we weren't gonna notice on the V5 later!!

After telling us that it hadn't got any history with regards to problems, we then revealed that we knew otherwise and suggested he go check.
Funnily enough, they've admitted it had the electrical problem which has now been resolved. New engine wiring loom and power steering sorted.

We requested that they guarantee the newly fitted parts for 3 years - to which they've said "no". They've also said no to any more money off the car so we've asked about freebies thrown in or they contribute to the GAP insurance.....awaiting their reply on that one.

@Seymour - mind if I ask how much you bought / sold it back for? ('ballpark' figure if you like)

TBH! I'd recommend looking at other dealerships, Cars with bad past dont always turn out trouble free. If they have the cheeks to lie about previous ownerships who knows if they replaced the existing wiring loom with a brandnew....... .

End of the day you want a hassle free car!

sorry to put a downer on it, but i agree with POLOZ

i would look for another one, and tell the vw dealer to shove it up there arse! for not telling you the truth about the history, if you still want to have that car, you should be able to get a cracking deal on it....

I had the experience of the driver's seatbelt jamming up on the second day I had my car, then found that the cambelt hadn't been replaced (albeit only 23k miles, but it had been 4 years) and the rear discs were corroded and lipped. Had a go (not exactly a rant) at the sales manager over the phone for selling my an unsafe car (well yeah, when the seatbelt doesn't work!), but they eventually sorted it out under warranty. Soooo many things have gone wrong with it during the 1st year, including loose trim problems, faulty interior monitoring disable switch for the alarm (which they never managed to sort out, however 18 months after buying it I sorted it out myself ), the radio display going t**s up, indicator stalk fault, two broken springs on the front...might have missed something else. Luckily for me, most of these things were sorted on the spot, within the hour, bar the springs (where I had to leave my car with them for a few days). Each new problem wanted me to sell the car at the first opportunity, but I held on to it despite and it runs like a charm now (knocks on table).

Had I knows I'd have so much trouble, I would have held out until another one turned up.

This is my car less than a day after I picked it up



I'm not saying don't go for it, but after my experience, I wouldn't touch a car with a barge pole if I knew it had had serious problems in the past.

Please don't think i'm knocking back your comments here below, i'm really grateful - but just to look on the positive side more - in a bid to continue with the sale.....

It's confirmed on the VW system (with cost) that it was a brand new loom.

Surely if it was a dodgy connection and they've now replaced the entire loom, then it should be ok?

Is a bad connection in the previous wiring really a serious problem if it's now replaced?

It's near impossible to find a White GTi - no older than 2 years - with just 6000 mileage - for less than £11,000
I'm really not keen to buy a car in the meantime while I wait for something as good that may not become available.

Car still has 18 months warranty so if anything went wrong then i'd just take it back.
It drove like a dream on saturday.

All this looks like i'm trying to convince everyone, but i'm just interested to see if anyone agrees with me and the boyf?

I'm not saying don't go for it....well, it's kinda hard to express in words. 18 month warranty is a plus, but you've always got to consider the act that it may not have (or just have) been the loom. Maybe try and squeeze some extra warranty out of them or something.

What persuaded me to buy my car in 2007 is that it was a 53 reg with only 23k miles for £6k. Other examples of the same age had 40 - 50k miles on them and cost over 7k...probably for a reason. Although me and my car had some teething problems, I was lucky enough to have all issues dealt with through the terms of the warranty and it's as reliable as a Swiss army knife at the moment. I also have one of the lowest milage (<32k right now) 53 plate 1.4 TDis around, which should help resale values, and I paid considerably less that what I would have done otherwise.

There's always two sides to a story, it's compleatly plausable that problem this GTI had is now fully rectified. You'd have a 1 month exchange policy anyway. But I'd try ad get a longer warranty for the asking price.

Hmmm.....That sounds fair enough!

If you are confident with the car, then make sure you get an extended warranty atleast an extra year! imo

Also, if they dont come down on price then argue for extras as you said before!

and if you are unable to get either of them, i'd recommend to look somewhere else!

They seem reluctant to budge on the extended warranty or price, so I guess all I can try for is some extras.

If there is any further problem with the wiring, then i'd hope it'd show itself in plenty of time before the warranty runs out - by which time I probably would've done 12,000 miles or more

you better hope so my polo gti has given me the the most probs comming to the end of its warrenty its been at vw since friday and they stil have no explination to y my engine management light is on. seems lyk they are trying to drag it on in my eyes though as my warrenty runs out 2mre

Surely if you reported the problem before the warranty end-date, then they would have to honour it - regardless of it expiring while they're scratching their heads?

From what Seymour said about the problem, it was recurring within weeks in relative quick succession.
If nothing happens within the 18 months of warranty then i'd assume it was a new fault anyway.

I agree with you. on paper the car is solid. It's had some past but it has clearly been rectified. And if it is indeed problematic, you've got the warranty to cover you. I'd just try and milk it for as much as you can! Squeeze a full tank of petrol with the deal etcc.

yh i hope mine gets sorted to at this point in time their trying to blame the map on the car bt it cannot be that as its been on their for nearly a year with no issues so it jus seems like they dont no what the problem is and their easy way out is to blame the map. i left the car with half a tank when i gave it to them lets see if i get that back.

Charlie probs happen with cars aslong as you've got that warrenty rapes the ass off the dealer until it runs out lol

same here as Harnz, mine runs out of warranty in may, and mine has been in the garage 3 times in the last month had a new dual mass flywheel and clutch, console bushs split, o/s drop link replaced, pretty sure the n/s one has gone to so means another trip to the dealer, so i would try and push for more warranty on yours if you can

mate my car needs all the stuff u jus said but becos its been lowered der refusin 2 do the work sik and tired of vw now nex car i get im not moddin coz they have try to get out of doin work on my car too much
