Got an Email from my dealer yesterday replying to my query regarding holdups and he said :
"as far as we can see only Golf , ID’s and maybe Tiguan although there’s no information on those , are directly affected. Polo , T-Cross and Taigo at least don’t seem to be. "

Got another Email this morning saying:
"your order has come forward from wk26 to wk22 , still unconfirmed at this point , but we are ahead of schedule with the estimate showing August instead of possibly October"

So I suspect it's a matter of sit tight and see how it all pans out.

I always order the sunroof, some say it slows the order.
I'm not sure if that's true or a fallacy. Those far more knowledgeable about VW than me, may know.

I think the more heavily optioned and / or the higher the standard spec a car has, the more complex the supply chain, which would increase the potential for supply chain disruption and the increase lead times if some parts suppliers can’t deliver to VW for whatever reason (e.g. if they’re having supply shortage issues themselves). With current issues affecting car manufactures - e.g. supply chain disruption (semiconductor shortages and Ukraine situation) and Covid, there’s lots of scope for longer wait times, especially if parts can’t be sourced, and / or production facilities have to be temporarily shut down or operate at less than normal production levels.

If a car is spec’d with a sunroof but the manufacturer of the sunroof assembly is having issues getting all the parts they need to manufacture it, then presumably the build of those cars would be pushed back, increasing the wait time. Same apples to supply issues of any other part or component.

I’ve read that some car manufacturers that have experienced semiconductor supply issues have been partially building cars to keep production moving, and those partially built vehicles are then moved to a temporary storage facility pending further supplies of semiconductors being received when the build of those vehicles will be completed. It must be a logistical nightmare for car manufacturers to move partially build cars in and out of temporary storage and back into the factory or some specially created temporary car finishing facility to complete the build.

I ordered my Polo GTI in Reef Blue and extras (wish they had a heated windscreen option) two weeks before christmas 2021 and yesterday got an email from VW to say it had been built and had left the factory. :D

I have been told by the dealer it could be another 8-10 weeks before I get the car. Can anyone let me know the route the car takes back to the UK, once the car has been built. Looking forward to going from my manual Up GTI back to the DSG box of the Polo GTI and previously had a Mk7.5 Golf GTI, so have now been through the GTI family. :)

Nice to see some folks are actually getting their cars :D

Myself, I got a letter from VW this morning about delays. While it did not mention any model in particular, just wondering if other folks are receiving the same thing?

:( :( :(

This letter? It’s been posted on some of the Golf forums, so others are being informed officially about the delays. I’ve seen the Seat version of the letter posted over on seatcupra.net forum too.

Scottydoo, would you please tell me if the front bumper has a recess for the registration plate like the previous model?

Wife has a private reg and we can get away with a smaller plate if there's no recess. It doesn't look as though there is one.

Same question for the rear please.

We now have a build date, week 19 so earlier than we thought.

Many thanks Steve

How long does it take once your car has been built to get to the dealer and I read somewhere it gets additional checks?

It used to be around 6-8 weeks from VW’s Uitenhage factory in South Africa to the UK dealership, although the actual time period will depend upon such things as how long the car sits waiting in South Africa before being loaded onto the ocean going vehicle carrier and once it’s in the UK, any potential delays in getting the car transported to the dealership.

I’m not sure about the additional checks though; cars will (presumably) go through a QC process when they come off the factory production line and they get PDI’d at the UK dealership. Other than that, I can’t imagine all cars get additional checks - maybe random cars are selected and inspected for transit damage? (damage does happen).

Based on my experience the PDI can miss faults on the car and not all cars aren’t 100% perfect on collection day. Of the five brand new VW’s I’ve had, four of them had issues when I collected them - e.g. misaligned body panels / uneven panel gaps, paintwork imperfections - so when you do eventually collect your car, be sure to check it over very carefully for damage and faults.

Thanks for the info SRGTD. I am also getting mine detailed so will check over carefully and have asked them to leave the protective film on for now.
