For those of you into 0-60 times...deanjohnl wrote:Horribly slow. You'll hate it!rm55mcc wrote: Didn't even get a test drive as there is none here , are they quick??????
This month's Top Gear (Issue 273) has a test of the best hot hatches of the year. Our humble little Polo GTI posts real-world Bruntingthorpe 0-60 time of 6.2 seconds (0.5 seconds faster than the official figures) which was 0.1 seconds FASTER than the Golf GTI they tested. I thought it felt quick, but didn't realise how quick.
Comment was 'It's actually so strong in the mid-range, wheelspin knackers its times, so it's crucial to maintain traction'
Of its real world competitors only the Peugeot 208 GTI recorded the same time. It was quicker than:
Seat Leon Cupra (Hatch and Wagon) (0.2)
VW Golf GTI and GTD (0.1 and 1.2)
Clio Renault sport Trophy (0.3)
Ford Focus ST (0.1)
Skoda Octavia vRS (0.1)
Vauxhall Corsa VXR (0.5)
Ford Fiesta ST (0.4)
Suzuki Swift (1.6)
I think it might be classed as reasonably quick...
Re: New GTI
Interesting there are three guys at work who all ribbed me for choosing the 'VW slowlo' (how original), one drives a clip trophy, one a corsa vxr and one a Leon cupra, drag race in order I think.Penarth Blues wrote:

Re: New GTI
It was manual, right? An Aussie magazine was testing both auto and manual and for manual they reached 6.2s and for auto 6.7s.Penarth Blues wrote: This month's Top Gear (Issue 273) has a test of the best hot hatches of the year. Re: New GTI
It doesn't say but I assume it would be the manual, due to the wheelspin commentm0rrthal wrote:It was manual, right? Re: New GTI
I have a Leon Cupra 280, and I recorded a 0.60 of 5.4 and a quarter mile of 13.27, @ north Weald, while racing a polo gti, it was a 1.4 tsi, but it was remapped and he recorded 14.60 so

Re: New GTI
Just reporting what the TG tests found. I'm sure slight variations in this are possible - though your 5.4 does seem unlikely unless you've modded it, as this takes 1 second off the time TG managed, or it's an older model which was faster?Nobziller wrote:I have a Leon Cupra 280, and I recorded a 0.60 of 5.4 and a quarter mile of 13.27, @ north Weald, while racing a polo gti, it was a 1.4 tsi, but it was remapped and he recorded 14.60 so
EDIT: Just checking the TG article again and your personal quarter mile would have been identical to the Merc A45 and 0.17 behind the Golf R. TG recorded 14.5 for your car quarter mile at Bruntingthorpe. So assuming all else is equal I think it's fairer to compare cars under identical conditions. Note that the new Polo GTI is a 1.8 with 189 BHP not a 1.4 in case you didn't know. Also the Cupra Hatch was far quicker 0-100 than the Polo.
Re: New GTI
Any ideas what the waiting times are from order to delivery now? I've placed my order today so wanted to know if I'm likely to see the car before Christmas.
Cheers

Re: New GTI
I've just ordered mine, dealer says they've placed the order today. They reckon "end of November at the latest", but obviously it's just an estimate

Re: New GTI
Mines a 3dr though, 5dr is up to 5 month lead time I was told
Re: New GTI
I've been told 14 weeks wait [emoji106]
Re: New GTI
I know it's a 1.8, as I ordered one, and was waiting as long as Andy, but got fed up and cancelled, and bought the 280,Penarth Blues wrote:Just reporting what the TG tests found. Mine is mapped, Ava has done two lots of times at North Weald, 0/60 was 5.5 standard, and it's putting the power down, and it recorded a 13.95 also at North Weald. Front wheel drive is all about getting of the line, so that's the problems with those results, more about the driver being used to the car
Re: New GTI
So the end of November seems to be the norm then!

Re: New GTI
That makes sense then with the remap. Agree about 'feel' and conditions - it's all just dick waving anyway. Enjoy your 280 - that's properly rapid... How's the remap affected MPG? Is it noticeably worse?Nobziller wrote:I know it's a 1.8, as I ordered one, and was waiting as long as Andy, but got fed up and cancelled, and bought the 280,Penarth Blues wrote:Just reporting what the TG tests found.
