Re: New GTI + delivery
Spoke to vw chat again..they still say they know nothing about a Polo GTI halt in production until November. Neither does my dealer.
Having a case manager was pointless , which I guessed. There is little they can do.

Re: New GTI + delivery
Yep, Wheelspin. First time i've seen drag race footage on a Polo GTI/+ that hasn't been on a Brescia equipped car. From what we've seen of real UK cars coming through here, it is assumed that 17" wheels come with Michelin Premacy tyres and 18" Brescias come with Bridgestone Turanza. Both tyres are touring tyres, not performance tyres.
The Turanzas on my car spin up very easily in 1st from a standstill, with maybe 40% of throttle, and will still spin up low down in 2nd with about 80% throttle. I can only imagine that under launch control, you'd do a hell of a lot more spinning.
Seeing that footage, it looks like the Michelin Premacys are noticeably better than the Turanzas, but still spin up (experience of a number of new VWs coming with Bridgestones showed them to be easily provoked into tramping with minimal throttle).
Standard equipment for that Renault RS 18 F1 is the fitment of Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres. These are among the grippiest performance tyres you can get, I fitted my Golf R with them when the Bridgestone Potenzas it came with proved very poor at turn in grip, even if the 4-motion system eliminated standing-start traction issues. The difference with the Michelins was night and day - you'd have to do something truly stupid to break traction with them, even in Winter conditions.
I'd expect a GTI equipped with those PSS to have kept the right side of the Renault from the start. The superior torque won out in the end once properly rolling, but once again it seems that VW cheaping out on the tyres makes the car perform at far less than its potential. I'd love to see that drag race again with the Polo having the same rubber.

Not sure if this link has been posted up from Mat Watson before so apologies if it has, it’s from three weeks ago and during his review he tests the 0-60 and records a time of 6.4 seconds.

Re: New GTI + delivery
I always wonder about these user/reviewer measured "0-60" times. Are they directly comparable to official figures? Are they measuring 0-62mph (100kmph) as the official figures do, or 0-60mph - which should be marginally quicker, especially if it avoids a gear change to 3rd that 0-62 may have had.Cadwest wrote: ↑Sat Sep 15, 2018 9:35 am Not sure if this link has been posted up from Mat Watson before so apologies if it has, it’s from three weeks ago and during his review he tests the 0-60 and records a time of 6.4 seconds.

GTI 0-60 6.4 secs!
Fiesta ST PP (manual) 6.8 secs and generally a little quicker in-gear
Re: New GTI + delivery
Small update to my previous post regarding this horrendous delay!
The dealership will part exchange my current car and hire me one of their cars until around December. As it has not yet been 8-9 months since my order (April), the dealership can not provide me with a free courtesy car but once it gets to around December, I was told VW UK will have to step in and provide one free of charge because of the delay.
Decided this is the best option. Only other one was keeping my car and paying finance on it, but with guaranteed equity already sorted, I would be wasting money. They price matched my current finance so £195 a month to hire any available Polo they have (inc. insurance) is reasonable - saves me buying a new policy on my current car and changing it midway to the Polo GTI.
They could not provide me with any information on expected delivery date, though. Best they said that December or January is looking a bit more likely, but could not commit to a date - to be expected, really.
Can’t go wrong with the hire car, though. Small upgrade over my current car, comes with Apple CarPlay, and of course it’s one of their demos so in very good condition!

For what it’s worth, this video posts 0-60mph in 6.1 and 0-100kmh in 6.5monkeyhanger wrote: ↑Sat Sep 15, 2018 12:52 pmI always wonder about these user/reviewer measured "0-60" times. Re: New GTI + delivery
I don't know how significant is it, but the GTI no longer appears on the VW.de site configurator...?
https://www.volkswagen.de/app/konfigura ... ?page=trim
Also, the TSI engines are described as having a "Ottopartikelfilter"

Re: New GTI + delivery
it might not be of any significance. The GTI+ was removed from the UK configurator earlier this year for a few months, but it was still possible to order one and it’s since been added back to the configutator. The GTI is still in the configurator on VW.fr (French) and VW.es (Spanish) websites.
That’s the GPF (gasoline particulate filter).
In this early YouTube video on the Autogefühl channel on the new Polo from last year (link below), the presenter is interviewing the VW product manager for the Polo (from 24 min 40 sec). The product manager specifically mentions the fitment of particulate filters to petrol TSI engined Polos ‘from the middle of next year (2018)’ at 26 min 32 sec in the video. So it was known GPF’s on Polos were happening.

Re: New GTI + delivery
This is from the VW.de site today.
Due to capacity bottlenecks and to avoid undue waiting times for new orders, the Polo GTI (fuel consumption, l / 100 km: urban 7.7 / out of 4.9 / combined 5.9 combined CO₂ emission, g / km: 134, efficiency class: C 2 ) can not be ordered temporarily. We will inform you as soon as the model can be ordered again.

According to another Autogefuhel video, the WLTP modifications (Modified Turbo, Injectors and the GPF) had significantly improved fuel economy over Pre WLTP cars, mind you they were specifying the 95ps engine.
This is actually quite exciting to hear as my heart dropped a little when I heard of a GPF, naturally more constriction in the exhaust system.

Re: New GTI + delivery
Check out this guy with the GTI. Its my type of review. Much better that Chris Evans review in the Sunday Mail today which he says dull on the outside but 5 stars for everything else. But then again him on style!!! . Also pity they don't give stars for availability (5 zeros)!
