Re: New GTI
I think they must be scuttling the ship to claim the insurance!
Mine was built 3 weeks ago but the dealer still can't confirm its location.

Re: New GTI
First thing, all VAG cars get to UK via Emden in Northern Germany, as do Scandi etc market VAG cars. Second, any cars coming to Scotland and parts of Northern England will come in via Tyne Port.
So, to keep you interested and let you keep up to date with where the car is in the world, as soon as the cars get loaded in Spain, the dealer can tell you which transporter boat it is on, then you can get on to "marine movements" and keep an eye on the progress of that transporter boat. At Emden they get loaded into smaller transporter boats for final delivery to areas of country of sale. If you stuff the transporter boat name into Google etc it will take you to "marine movements" - you should try it, I spent many hours trying to work out which boat my Polo SEL was on when coming in from South Africa - I could not find it as they "turn left" after leaving port and head up to Oman and Saudi etc before going through the Suez canal to Spain, then on to Holland/Belgium then Germany (Emden) then to UK. Cruelly, by the time I managed to get the details of the boat from my dealer, the boat had just left Zeebrugge on its way to Emden, I was not happy about at all, felt cheated!!
Just to clear one thing up, the dealer can find out where your car is especially if it is on a transporter boat, they look for and get regular updates, though maybe some dealers are just plain lazy or got other things on their minds right now (job hunting!).

Re: New GTI
Remember the logistics, there will be many cars/small trucks being moved around and VAG will have sorted out their logistics to make sense, lots of these cars/small trucks on the HUGE transporter boats will not be for UK market, just Northern Europe market in general. If you take a look on the marine movements site you will see that there are lots of these transporter boats moving around.

Re: New GTI
Emden is, I think, used as a final mustering/distribution point for European sale models coming in from all over the world, and it is "Passat World" so there will be some outward moving of some models manufactured in Germany to the rest of the world.Andy4791 wrote:So why do they go to Germany?

Re: New GTI
For those picking up their cars soon, have you heard if VW will still be doing the free first year insurance? The current offer only goes up to "all qualifying new Polo models registered by 30th September 2015", but in the past they have extended it (not sure if they'll be so generous now though!!)

Re: New GTI
I thought the deal was for orders placed before the 31st September and registered before 31st Decemberduffman wrote:For those picking up their cars soon, have you heard if VW will still be doing the free first year insurance? Re: New GTI
According to this - http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/buying-guid ... rivate/418 - the £1,000 deposit contribution is "available for vehicles ordered by 30th September 2015 and delivered by 31st December 2015", but the insurance bit says, "One year’s insurance included from Volkswagen Insurance on all qualifying new Polo models registered by 30th September 2015"Mikeyander5on wrote:I thought the deal was for orders placed before the 31st September and registered before 31st Decemberduffman wrote:For those picking up their cars soon, have you heard if VW will still be doing the free first year insurance? Re: New GTI
My car left the factory yesterday, dealer is saying handover on the 17th of October, fingers crossed. If he's right it'll be exactly 12 weeks from order.

Re: New GTI
If the only problem is the emissions scandal well I wouldn't look at that and think I'm never buying a vw again, the problem can be easily fixed and of course at no expense to buyers. I'm sure in weeks to come many company's including bmw, mercedes, audi etc will have been investigated and maybe found to have a similar device fitted if this is the case it's probably a good thing for VW.Andy4791 wrote:Does anybody think this Diesel trouble will impact on us buyers any way, eg resale values even tho we are petrol engined.
