Oh sweet jesus VW customer service....

Phoned today and put through to a lovely lady who really sounded quite confused... Gave the order number and was told the car was still on it's way to Emden, this contradicted the messages from the dealer and the previous phone call to VW CS. I asked for the name of the boat it was on and was told she couldn't see it or the number of the container the car was in. Last time I checked VW used roll on roll off car carriers?

So depending on who you believe it will either already be in Emdem having arrived on the Galaxy Ace on the 1st of January or it's somewhere in the ocean on an unknown boat that's due to arrive on the 9th of Jan.

Is it really that hard to track from a - b ?

@markc123 - Congrats, we'll need some pictures please!

@Doc_House - You are correct about the ro-ro shipping, no idea what she means about containers. I'm going to guess she is just wrong, given your other info and the fact that Marine Traffic has no ships scheduled to arrive in the from SA (unless they don't schedule them that far in advance).

I also called VW CS today after this week tracking the ship called Emden, which arrived at Emden port yesterday, as result of the information I was told on Monday about my car being in transit - this all checked out and seems legit. Now today I've been told that the car will either be arriving in the UK on 3/1/2015 (tomorrow) or 7/1/2015, both of which make no sense to me at all given the first ship has already left Emden (meaning the car would've been in Germany less than 24 hours) and there is no such timetabled arrival at Sheerness on the 7th. Regardless, I've been told to call back on the 7th as a result.

The ship mentioned above which has already left Emden today is African Highway, so your car might even be on this Doc_House. I have no idea how long it stays in Emden or what they really do there.

I'm thinking it's not that they are bad at tracking, it's just that they would rather say these things than tell people their cars are sitting at the docks for weeks. I cannot for a minute believe they lose cars given how many times they must need to scan bar-codes.

@Jamesbluegt - From all the time-scales I've seen, I would say that it's possible as it takes under two days travel from Emden to the UK ports (that I know of), then the dealer side of things shouldn't take too long (testing, "detailing" and so on). I'm not too sure how long it'd be kept at the port over here for transport however, or if they load them onto a transporter the day they come in.

If anything, I think the bigger setback would be whether your salesperson has time for you, but I can't see them being that busy straight after Christmas.

Mine was at emden in mid dec, and then into the UK less than 2 weeks later, so you should be about right james.

Pics of mine will of course follow, before it gets covered in salt and other general ming. I may clean this one more than my usual bi-annual schedule though!

Its shaping up to be a good car week - old part built kit car sold today, someone coming tomorrow to look at my 330 and the new polo on Thu. By the end of the week I might have a slightly sensible fleet :D .

@tankmontana good :) just wanted a bit of reassurance really as most of the time vw CS tell me something it's wrong, and I already know that as soon as the car touches there dealership I'll be called as I put in a complaint about all the false info I had been given when buying the car at my dealership and they couldn't be more sorry and I think the guy I was dealing with was sacked as he's now gone, don't know if that was to do with me or not but they call me at least once a week to update me and so do vw complaints department

Does this mean that it is waiting to be shipped or if it has actually been shipped? The tracker is so confusing

James yours and mine must be in the same area as I've just got the same text... Sure there was a list previously posted

Stolen from the golf forum... Couldn't find it on here:

5b: in transit:shipping - at Emden awaiting a boat.

5c: in transit:nearly here - on boat to either Grimsby, Tyne or Sheerness depending on dealer location.

6. Arrived in the UK - as stated, takes up to 10 days apparently, although they try and do it within 7.

7. At dealer - just needs PDI and valet and is ready for you.

Chances are it'll be the Emdem as City of Sunderland is going to Tyne docks and the African Highway is going to Sheerness. Think mine will be a Grimsby one as well as it'll be coming to Birmingham.

Getting Excited :-)
