Jack used to want one it was the car he wanted after the gti, went as far as going on forums to find stuff out and got a test drive out of a local one, so I know he likes them, :D
but for him the ed30 ticked so many more boxes. ;)

If im honest, all these numbers being quoted baffle me, I always thought it wasnt all down to numbers, (0-60s, BHP, Torque) But weight, set up, Tyres, gear ratio, Driver, road conditions, hell even how the car is treated daily.

I'm dreading my MOT and that's not till September! As long as I don't end up spending £700ish like last year I'll be happy! Ha!

alexperkins wrote:Well said Jack. Stock mine walked from Type Rs and E46 M3s like taking candy from a baby.

And I think its fair to say this should stop here before this goes out of hand
The ed30 will be quick in a straight line at stage 2 by the looks of things, but saying a stock ed30 will walk an e46 m3 stock is little bit retarded! Type R's yes, m3's no...big BIG difference in straight line power there  340hp (m3) vs 227hp (ed30) and maybe 100-150kg's difference?? I know you know better than that alex!, an e46 m3 will rape a stock ed30, my 270hp ibiza which weighed as much as a can of beans got walked on by m3's, the 330/340hp IHI cupra was a different kettle of fish. I reckon you may JUST pull on an e46 at stage 2 (assuming its not tuned)

EP3's are nice cars, very capable on a track but just not quick in a straight line, s2000's are better but still not FAST!, thats not their forte though and on the twisties they come to life, you dont buy honda's for pub bragging rights. stick a mase turbo on and that changes things a bit :) (almost bought one about 3 months ago - very quick!)

alexperkins wrote:Fair comments Ben :)

Though its fair to say, a supercharged EP3 is 265 BHP with around 170 ft.lb of torque

A stage 2 ed 30 is 320BHP with around 340 ft.lb of torque

Would be interesting - end of the day, BHP is nothing without torque.
Your looking at more like 300bhp & over 200ft lbs of torque for a charged Type R mate (Stage 2)
Stage 1 would be around 265-270 as you mentioned but most people tend to change the camshafts, fit uprated inlet & exhaust manifolds, Gruppe M intake, Spoon exhaust & Hondata K Pro ECU with a charger your looking at 300bhp +

Lets not argue though, they are both great cars at the end of the day.
Both are capable hot hatches with rave reviews and warrant their fan base.

ED30 is a quicker car and the stats prove that, the Type R is more capable track car due to its superior handling.

Nice :) another project for you to get stuck in to! I've always wondered, what's the power like in one of these in comparison to the 6n2 GTI?

It's an 8V ben.

Im gonna restore it, and use it as a daily to keep the mileage down on the eddy

Considering its already done 231,000 miles (and is still solid as a rock!) adding daily mileage to it isnt much of a worry lol

231K jesus thats Nasa mileage lol

They are good for it though, solid old engines on the MK2's :)
What's the overall condition like? obviously you expect them to be a little tatty due to the age and mileage

Haha isnt it!

The average distance between the moon and the earth is 238857 miles, so im not far off!!

Mechanically its sound. It needs a bit of bodywork, and some interior attention such as new seats but its doable on the cheap

unless you are traveling from the centre of the earth then you would have the distance covered ages ago

also gives me great hope for my polo already on 138 something thousand miles ha ha,

People often overuse the term "moon mileage" but least you actually can use that term with conviction lol

They are great looking cars though, always loved the MK2 Golf's and it will be a good daily runabout for you :)
Keep us all updated mate :)
