Is that cos the sidewalls bulge out more or what?? :?
eh? I think higher profile tyres tend to have more bulged out sidewalls. It also depends on the tyre brand. like those firestones youve got steve, buldge out more than the matadors the wheels used have on, i had alot less scrubbage problems with the matadors.

Eh? No, a higher profile tyre causes more scrubbage, as does a larger cross section... a high profile tyre causes a bulged sidewall which can scrub, and a tyre with a wide cross section will catch due to the width of the tread... so a 185/70 would have a much higher chance of scrubbing than a 175/60, for example.
An example, in my case I have a pair of 175/70r13's and a pair of 185/60r13's - both of which scrub about the same amount because the 175's have a high profile so the sidewall bulges out and scrubs, and the 185's don't bulge out so much but have a wider tread. If that makes things any clearer..

Dammit - I put 6 down first, then changed my mind!!

The fact that my 185s are on 6 inch rims rather than 6.5 only strengthens my point tho - 145s onto 7 inch is f'ing crazy - and probably impossible!! :?

@Del, I think the only reason for doing it is looks!! Spose you could also do it to fit wider wheels without scrubbing - but i'm of the opinion that wider tyres means more grip and better handling!!
yeah I did it for scrubbage avoidance over looks, but they look quite good as well which is a bonus of me having to compromise tyre width. But I probably could have got away with 185/50s looking back. I will know for sure when the car gets lowered in a few weeks time. :D
But I think I've worked out that Gareth was in fact talking about the tyres on his car - not mine (his old car)

It's always reassuring to know i'm not completely losing the plot!!

I think tyres that are streched a little bit so that the sidewalls are slighly inwards look sweet but when you go mental leaving 1mm of sidewall it just looks s**t. You need a certain amount of tyre or it just looks crap imo.

I'm tempted to go for 12" wheels and putting some fat rubber and chunky white walls on mine.
