Hehe d'oh

Did you hear a *snap* and then your clutch pedal went loose? Thats what happened to mine, and I couldn't put it in gear from neutral, or take it out of gear if I started the engine in gear :?

Turned out to be the auto-adjusting mechanism on the clutch cable...

Thats exactly what happend! Is is a big repair and will it take long - I ws hoping to have it for this holiday weekend! but doesn't look too hopeful

When mine failed, I had to call VW Assistance, and they came out within 90 minutes, the guy took a look and manually adjusted it, fixed it up there and then. He said that it would then work indefinitely, but recommended that I get the clutch cable replaced anyway as the car was under warranty for 1 more day (lucky eh?).

Basically once the VW techie had manually adjusted the cable and got it working again, he said the only difference would be that the clutch pedal would no longer auto-adjust - as the cable wears, the pedal will drop lower you see, but with the auto-adjuster working, the pedal stays at the same level as the brake pedal, no matter how much wear the clutch cable gets :)

So mine was fixed in a couple of minutes and the car was then perfectly driveable. I booked it in for the repair and it was fixed 4 days after the failure. Can't advise on cost as the work was carried out under warranty!

Hi all,

I only registered last week, had my polo nearly 2 years, 2001 silver, 16 inch Oz alloys, changed front grill and rear lights.

I am another Glaswegian !! now live in Ayrshire, we love the polo, looked at loads of golfs and peugeot 206 gtis before buying it, mind you not near as quick as our really fast car, my other halfs Subaru P1
