Those chrome strips are original - there was the option of no stripe, chrome stripe or red stripe. My old grille was chrome..

yep as GC says, tis original , same on the bumpers too but that doesn't look too good, flaked off, so either gonna see bout tidying it up or maybe just find another bumper....i think i saw in eurocar parts that they do brand new bumpers for bout £35, which doesn't seem too bad considering my bumpers are a bit faded now aswell.......BTW bout the 2 spot grill? are the 2nd set of lights fogs or driving lights? and when are they legal to have on?

How much for the towbar?

don't know bout the towbar tbh, i've still got it on at the mo and i'll probably wait till i pass my driving test b4 i take it off, then maybe i'll clean up the rust on it and sell it then, so i'll let ya know as soon as i make a decision mate

Some of the very early mk2's had them set up as front fog lights, but the majority of them are full beam headlights. They're wired in to the same switch as the outer full beam headlights, so they come on whenever you want full beam. If they're set up as fog lights, they'll come on with the first click of the fog lamp switch, when the headlights are on full/dip beam. It's only legal to use front fogs in poor visibility, I can't remember the exact visibility distance but I just use my fogs when it's so foggy that I have to slow down almost to a crawl.. not that they help much even then, mine are a bit rubbish really

Is your CD player ok with the angle? Thought it would skip at any more than 25 degrees?

tis fine, as long as the CD player is of good quality.... they are the same on ALL MK2's, iv put a "seat belt harnes pad thingy" under it to support it... i did have a problem with my first CD Player... it was a Ministry of sound one... so wot u expect.... lol.... i got a Sony one now, jumps now and again over harsh bumps... but apart from that. great!

never seemed to be a problem in a mate's old metro (even more of a severe angle).
the universal playing ability of most cd drives does seem to surprise a lot of people. depending on your model...... all should work up to about 45 degrees, most should work til it's vertical, and a select few* will be full 360 jobs. for the drive mechanism to actually work, the disc has to be clamped against the motor anyway, so it won't be going anywhere if you tilt it - unlike an old vinyl.

oh and the lower the foglights, the better - they're suppose to shine thru the 6 inch-or-so gap layer at the bottom of the fog where it's either non-existant or a lot thinner (the ground effect working for mist as well as smoke) and project light upwards into the fog to illuminate obstructions etc. as groovy says - only meant for very severe conditions where you're otherwise blind. i've only used mine in anger all of about twice, both times i was progressing between a crawl and 15mph depending on instantaneous thickness of the murk. once you can see far enough to carry on safely at 15-20mph you can knock them off, unless you're on a narrow road and worried about idiots coming the other way who might not spot you so early without extra light.

* this discounting discmans / other portable cd players inc laptops, whose clip-on motor design also makes them 360 degree types as the disc is held very firmly even without clamps.

tbh i havn't tried a cd in the stereo whilst it's been moving although my sister's b/f fitted it and tested it b4 i'd got the car, it's a sony headunit so from what ppl have said it sounds like it'd work okay, cheers for the concerns
