I'm pretty sure It's not thatcham approved :(

I checked with insurer and they reckon the standard one on my car isnt thatcham approved. My car's imported from Ireland so I'm not sure if this is the same as the standard UK one (though I suspect it is). Unfortunately this seems to be a pretty common situation with most hot hatches. I think manufacturers should be installing cat 1 alarms on hot hatches as standard. Even if it cost them a little bit extra it'd save their customers hundereds of pound in insurance. Maybe a petition is in order 8)

Hopefully VW'll get their act together for any future hot hatches

Tesco Insurance is very good (cheap!).

I'm 23, have a Polo Gti, and pay £650.

It might be worth giving them a call - i've got no complaints.

Hi,

I've got 3 years NCD and the car is parked on a drive way not the street.

Do you have any idea why you've had such a high quote?

probably becuase I've got 0 NCB...
it would be parked in a garage as well...
but even with 3 years NCB i doubt 19xx is gonna go down to 650.... so i dunno why its so expensive.

Yeah, Tescos wouldnt even touch me (i.e quote me!), I'm 26 with no claims bonus and driven for donkeys' years' (oh...neglect to inform you I have three points on my licence...for speeding!).

All insurance is a scam...and you are better off ringing round because different companies have different rating systems to rate their customers.
