If the car is warm, and you look after the engine (i.e change oil regularly, keep it topped up) then taking the GTi to 6500rpm is not ragging it unless you are at those revs for very long periods of time. Thats also assuming you have a bit of regard for the transmission and the clutch by changing well too. Obviously you are going to wear the engine more than going 3000rpm, because the engine is spinning twice as much, but the difference in wear is tiny.thats more then thrashing! more of ragging the **** off it! I dont drive like a granny, just sensibly!
