I loved my NZ! You could rake it about and it wouldn't die. Ideal cheap nippy car imo. I'd deffo have another NZ

Revis what brakes does your NZ have? im wondewring if there any better than my 1.0 ones..and what insurance group is it in? gotta prepare for a kick in the nads from admiral.

83Coupe, the NZ is the same insurance as the standard 1.3, I'm paying £400~ 2years NCB, 3points third party fire and theft at 20 years old.
Yeah, Kam you can rag the NZ about untill something gives up, I'm my case it's the gearbox, but I think that's just because the oil levels were screwed with (I'm sure the box didn't make as much noise before it went into the garage). The engine's fine at the mo, just need to change a ew wareables like the cam belt. for 85k it's not done a bad job, and for 10/15k of those miles it's been ragged constantly (I went through a stage of finding the limiter).

@Dan- the chip just fits like any other of Alans and i did notice a difference pretty much with it being smoother and more revvy.
@83Coupe- Ive got G40 brakes on mine with Raicam pads. Great brake setup for my car, can't fault it, oh and mine is a CL with NZ MPI on it, not a full NZ engine

ah eyah you've got the SPI ECU havne't you? Think it's different to the NZ ones.

you wolly Dan, how can i have the SPI ECU and run MPI
Its 100% the NZ ECU and they are exactly the same just with a different sticker to look at

I have no idea how it works!

I was just guessing.
So whats the difference between the standard NZ and the SPI? Compression?

an NZ has multipoint injection m8, So different inlet manifold, Injector rail, 4 injectors etc etc

whoops, should probably rephrase that.
Whats the difference between the two engines once the SPI has multipoint injection added?

erm, im not 100% sure but i think there is a slight difference in compression, i know the AAV and NZ cams are pretty tame too. But basically not too much difference with the AAV with MPI and the NZ really.

I can supply a generic map for the NZ. The NZ uses a very early type of fuel injection control digijet. This only controls the fueling and does not control the ignition. Therfore the iginition can not be advanced by the chip this is done via the vacumn pipe on the distributor. However a small increase in ignition base timing and one of my chips will work well.
However there are 2 types of chips used in the NZ depending on the age of the ECU. If it has a metal heat sink at the opisite end to the wiring plug then this uses an eprom that is no longer made and cost me alot more to buy. Therefore the early ones are £40 the later ones agian use an old chip that is easier to get so that is £35.
The mpi will give much better air and fuel distribution to each cylinder and more uniform mixing but cost more for vw to build than the spi that replaced it.

Hi its a K plate with 90K so yeh it has the heat sink on passenger side when fitted, and says digijet on it... I will get back to you when im ready to get a chip off you. Will it plug in Or solder in? with your chip, a induction kit, decat (as its in a mk2), and decent exhaust system. what power will i be looking at? 75-80HP? Also if i fitted a GT cam would your chip still have good effect ? sorry i gotta ask these questions

The chips push in not solder, the GT Cam will go well with one of Alans chips

how much work do you think it is to change the cam? Anyone on here done it before?

Tim overmind has done it and pinchy is going to do it to his. Pinchy reckoned about 30-45min job.
