bought my 1.9 PD TDI in 2004 and already put 64000 km on it
the only problem i had was a faulty sensor which had something to do with the brake lights and cost me a grand total of 21€ to replace
very satisfied of my polo up untill now, and i would definatly buy another VW, only problem is the new ones are all so damn ugly...

I am half and half about the 9N.
performance wise, torque is really good, acceleration (both in and through the gears) is good. Although top end it does max out quite soon.
I think the cars look nice, possibly a little tall though.
Equipment is mixed. cassette player!!!!! 2speakers!!!!!!!!! i think is very poor!!
No height adjust on the seats which sit way to high, tiny door pockets too.
AC is good though as is adjustable steering. one touch controls etc.
fault wise the only real problem i have had is the rar washer hose comng apart. It also used water for a while, now both are sorted.
I just find it strange that the 02-reg 1.2 clio which was one of my previous cars had more equiptment (for a cheaper car)
auto lights
auto wipers
trip computer
auto tinting screen
4 speakers
c-d player
radio controls on steering wheel
front fog lights
adjustable seat height
split folding rear seats
4 seat belt pre-tensioners
Maybe if i bought the car new i could have had some of these as extras? either way i will spec the car up as much as possible.

I'm now actually considering going down the Audi A3 route because of the faults with the 9n.
I REALLY REALLY want to get a 1.9 TDI Sport but the problem with the suspension & anti-roll bar is really really worrying me because i'm certain that the one that I do get will not have warranty and so I will have to pay out a bomb to get the problem fixed...
After searching through previous threads and reading through the anti-rollbar issue, I could probably goto whoevers gonna sort it and outline the problem for them but still it's abit iffy.
Still undecided

i must say i absolutely love my 9N. I love the comfort, I love the heater that heats up in abt 2 minutes, i love the torque when i plant it in 2nd at low revs, i love my cupholder that actually holds cups [unlike my mates 5 series]. i love the simplicity, i love the way when you pull your key from the ignition the interior light comes on and when its raining and your wipers are on, when you put your Polo in reverse the rear wiper comes on. It is a mountain of genius. People are complaining about things like squeaky gloveboxes and non height adjustable seats but if bought an 03 Renault Clio when you go to sell it it wont be worth s**t and it'll probably squeak a lot more than your glove box.

To be fair i would like to add i MADE money on the clio, in the 2 years of owning it, it never had one problem.
The glove box also had a LOCK on it.

well... problems...where shall i start lol...
nah the polo is an OKAY car for what it is although i think i could have got better for what i paid although im told that £4,500 for a 03 that had done 25,000 was good.
anyways, i got the car 2nd hand in april, the front headlight went straight away then the brake light, then the suspension cocked up (down to my stupid driving), well my parents paid 700£ to get that sorted..i was on holiday and i wouldnt have paid that much. it went in for a service, and with in a week the headlight and brake light went again! the brake pads make alot of niose, at slow speeds the suspnsion makes some real strange noises, the dash sqeeks alot when im driving, theres no lock on the glove box ( i thought most decent cars came with a glovebox lock), hangling is fine but i have driven better, engine sounds like a little girl lol, its really slow off the mark, horn sounds like a little girls bike horn, doors creek, that rim bit on my handbrake was loose and now ive lost it lol.... okay thats it really im sure theres other stuff but i dont want to hate on the car too much cosw apart from all of the above its not a bad car, although i actually wanted a golf but due to money issues i got stuck with the polo...
