BP Ultimate yeah, when I went to the South East meet I managed 315 before the light came on with that as the only motorway driving.

I get 475 miles if driven gently and 425 if driven hard out of my little 1.9d beasty. Its £34 per tank from red and warning light. Does exactly what I bought it for. My ST200 sucks down 50 quids worth of Shell Optimax in 3 days (300 miles!!!!). Before I got the polo I was on first name terms with nearly all the shell station staff in North Yorkshire!

How much difference does 'the good s**t' petrol have. eg. Optimax
Is it worth the milage?
Also does putting the crap petrol in mainly and every so often putting Optimax do anything?

Hi folks, newbie here!
I dive a 6N 1.6 8v GLX. I've only ever driven past the red a couple of times, because I don't want to bring all the rubbish from the bottom of the tank into the engine! I got about 370 miles out of 9.5 gallons, which was all town driving (near enough 39mpg for those keeping score), and on a long country run today, got 415 miles out of about 9.2 gallons (45mpg). Not bad for a ten year old engine!
I'm a bit worried about people who say they get around 270 miles from a full tank. On a later Gti maybe - but on 8 valve 6N's? That's sub 30mpg. If I thrash my car, which I hate doing but sometimes you have no choice, I always return a minimum 33 mpg.
Hope I don't sound like I'm lecturing anyone!

It's just some of those figures sound very low, and might be worth checking out.

I get roughly 400-450 out of mine, worked out as Southend to london = 55miles, 110 miles a day, can normally go 4 days on a full tank, 440 miles in total. Mostly fast A road driving at a steady 60-70. This is on a 1.4L 8v, no engine mods.(YET !!!!!!!!!!!)
