Perhaps they increased structural rigidity a bit on the Mk5. Or, they bonded the two panels together better! Haven't seen on a Mk5 *at all*.

YUp mine has started to do that at the passenger side of the back

away to get the tailgate smoothed over though, so will get them to sort it out when its getting done
