It reduces the ammout of movement in the throw of the gear stick speeding up the changes. I purchased it throught JBS autodesign group buy on the forum. its a golf vr6 one i belive that has to be slightly modified to fit the Polo. It cost around Â£150ish and I fitted it myself in afew hours.
