It would have meant removing the ECU to fit it and I didn't want the hassle of doing that.
Do you have to get the Seat ones from a dealer or can you order one from VAG parts?
I'm concerned about that part too but I'm sure i read somewhere that you can just loosen it and fit the brace and that's not the ECU. i believe that's something to do with the air con.

Don't think that would be something to do with the aircon, as I don't have it and i have aircon. Bit vague

but something to do with diesels, as ive seen it in nearly all VAG diesels: Ibiza MK4's, and the Fabia

Where's the ECU located in the petrol engines?

Circled red is where the 1.4 16v petrol one is, but mines a little larger and has a big bulky cover on it

i think that has something to do with fuel tank vapours (evap system is what vag call it i think)

Anyone know the easiest way to fit a strut brace with that evap thing in the way, or easiest way to loosen it?

wasn't the ECU we disconnected was the part with VW AC written on it sitting on the left mount strut (my mistake

)
could it be it has something to do with climatronic???
(since you have regular AC and don't have it)
anyway whatever it is, we just loosened it and unplugged it to install the strutbrace.
after the strutbrace was fitted we plugged it in again without any consequences

Might be for climatronic but may be for the fuel tank vapours as Ceedubya says

the ECU is in the same place on all polo's (behind the airbox).
the other box on the drivers side only needs to be loosened for a strut brace anyway (if the strut brace has open ends)

Got mine today, but had to give it back. Despite giving him the correct part number, (same as yours for the Ibiza) the dealer ordered a Seat Leon one

. Therefore I get mines next week now
