My bro drives a 56 plate honda civic 2.2 cdti i think,

I give him a shot of my polo he just simply loves it compared to his honda which looks like a space machine when you look at the dash with the crazy dials.

Theres just something i like about the gti looks etc that makes make love it, + theres not many of them around

i have also travelled in quick cars...and i am not refering to relics such as the previous r32...or some out dated s3...

so i know what i am on about when i say that the civic is fast...
i said i have owned them. Not borrowed them - and not wet myself in the passanger seat while my mate is driving.

Dont get me wrong, the new civic may be a good car..but it aint fast!

1.8i-VTEC 140PS petrol 6-speed manual: 0-60 8.6 seconds; top speed 127mph

8.6 seconds 0-60, 127mph top speed ......you wouldnt know fast if it came and bit you in the arse.

the door is that way.

i say if ur thinking of selling your polo gti let me know. with some pics.

i seen the new r32 and i kinda slammed on my brakes to look at it as it was parked and luckily i was in a multi story and no cars were behind me. i did think the car looked a bit of a beast but so did the old r32 imo. i'd like to get a 3 door polo gti in either black or silver preferably with low mileage...

but as my engine and gear box have been rebuilt i might not bee so bothered about it yet as i might relike my car when i finally get it back.

the stats speak for itself.. never mind comparing your Civic 1.8i v-tec to a Golf GTi... with only 138bhp i wouldn't even compare it to a new Polo GTI 1.8 TURBO... how much is it oh yea 180BHP!! i can't see your civic outrunning a 6n2 polo gti by much anywayz, only 8bhp more with an extra 200cc is a poor return... if anything, put your money where your mouth is and get down 2 santa pod! lets see how many ppl you leave behind at the lights there... who by the way are looking for a race, not your ammateur street race with a wheelie bin down the A41! :P

Part of me says we should ban Samuel for wasting peoples time and Josh's bandwidth. But then the other part of me finds some of the crap he writes amusing. Was one of these on your Christmas list Samuel?

Anyway, with regard to the original question, if it's the EK9 VTi then it is a pretty good car. I have respect for the fact that from a 1.6 16v block it produces almost 160bhp. Couple of friends of mine have owned Civic Jordans and they're rather nice, although I don't think I'd swap my GTi for one.

second point the new civic is better built than the 1999-2001 polo...as a matter of fact it is better built than the current r32/gti...and i should know as my cousin is a vw sales executive...and has his pick of any vw model that he wants...

thirdly my 1.8 is much quicker than the 1999-2001 gti...it can pretty much own most vehicles at the traffic lights...
Got to disagree on the build quailty compared to a MK5 GTI, I own a GTI and run a company Civic CDTI and the Civic as been in the garage more times than the GTI, they had to replace rear suspension bits on the Civic which they F'd up causing it to fail luckily I wasn't on the motorway or it could have been very dangerous ! The trim in the Civic is a better colour and has a funky shapped dash and plenty of toys however the Golfs buttons/switchgear etc is better built and the aircon system on the Golf is better. As for fuel consumption my GTI returns 31.6mpg the diesel Civic can't get past 40mpg I don't use it continually myself however it sits around 37-39mpg. The diesel engine however is very quiet and refined and got a fair amount of poke but I have had my arse handed to me in it by a 2L TDI A3 however I do suspect this was chipped.

I would say bar the gearbox the Polo GTI interior was better built and the paint on the outside better quality than both the MK5 GTI and the current Civic (this mainly down to EU law on waterbased paint and having so much plastic in the car recyclable). On the handling front Civic/Golf are better, the Civic is good but the Golf GTI is better still by a fair margin however not 100% fair to compare the GTI Golf to the CDTI Civic I suppose.

Also on the running costs the GTI is very cheap, first service is only a tad over £100 as its basically a oil change and should come up around 15k on the variable servicing (I am however changing the oil in between myself), the 2nd service around 30k is just under £200. Fuel consumption is pretty good considering I drive it pretty fast I've had over 40mpg on a long trip and never seen it dip into the 30s this is going by brim fills aswell. You'll find Civic services are more than this also maybe the CDTI costs more than the petrol to service though.
