all depends on what you race my friend. Most other small cars should really not be a problem... after you use my pattented plugs and leads!!!!
I joke off course. in all seriousness though these 8v's arent as slow as youd think. Look at all the other small cars with similar sized engines that you can beat. I dont know of a nauxhall that can touch me that is under 1.6 size engine, ive also not yet met a ford of similar sized engine that can match. though the fiesta 1.4 16v si was almost even, i was gaining speed i think...
All you have to do is look after your engine. Keep it well maintained ad know how to rag her properly.
No car will ever feel that afst ocne your used to it remember.
I love my car, i think its just nippy enough at the moment. Though i guess i still want more...

my mates 1.2 corsa can beat it, its a faster spec on paper, my other mates 1.4 ibiza can obliterate it, which confuses me because the engines are near identicle but anyways. maybe im just not racing good, any tips? I usually hold the revs at about 5k at the start then get out of 1st asap then red line it

5k on a 8v? bloody hell, I think you should be aiming for peak torque to be honest, 3500 - 4000 rpm. slip the clutch a wee bit and once grip is available floor it. those 8vs are quick off the line.JoeG07 wrote:my mates 1.2 corsa can beat it, its a faster spec on paper, my other mates 1.4 ibiza can obliterate it, which confuses me because the engines are near identicle but anyways. maybe im just not racing good, any tips? Yeh its all about technique. I would imagine an ibiza probably is faster as it might be tuned slightly differently. Then again its a bigger car i think, if only slightly... Gawd knows.
But yeh sounds like your technique is a little off dude. Like Mr burton says hold your revs about 3 and a half 4k's and hold the clutch just below the biting point. When that flag goes up bring the clutch up as quick as possible without wheel spinning or stalling. Its a fine art, you have to sort of juggle the throttle and clutch to maintain the revs, Once your foots all the way up on the clutch just floor it and hold your revs into the redline. Soon as the needle touches that line slam it into the next gear and floor it again.
Trust me mate if your engines any good then that corsa is nothing compared to your polo. My mates all think my cars rapid, i know its not lol. Its definately not a fast car, the trick is i can drive much better then them (chavvy essex boi's that they are
) so they look up to the polo as a god like machine. Well they could... if they could get past the ignorant cracism "f*****g german rubbish, bloody nazi car etc etc"
*sigh*
its all about practice man. Get yourself down some lanes and just drive about. Just dont get taking no bloody turnings quick down lanes. Thats a fools game. Trust me on that one, the fiesta... never looked the same again... still sold it mind... lol.

but like seriously 2nite, this KA was behind me on the motorway, and i was like go on, overtake u t*t, then we'll see whos boss. finally the bugger overtook and just shot past me, i was like
i ragged the crap out of my poor car and finally managed to catch up with the ka after a good 5 / 10 minuits with my car going flat out and topping at about 98, but i was very disapointed. Granted, it was a KA sport, and my car had 4 ppl in it, BUT ITS A FORD KA!!
