if i was gonna get a set of springs for the time being, is it the same set for all the 2002 on models (e.g. 1.0, 1.4, 1.9d) cheers

no, only coilovers will be generic. springs will be different depending on the engine weights. shouldn't be too expensive though.
225x45x17s are going to be pushing it, even with no lowering. they're over 1.5" more in diameter compared to the 195x55x15s some cars come with. This is going to be interesting, worth a try though. You're looking at over 6% speedo inaccuracy.
if lowered they will rub without much of a doubt.

right im have to make sure then. Its a 1.9 sdi so il make sure they are right. what tires have you got on ur 17's then mate and how much is it lowered (whats the ride like)?

205x40x17
I also think that 215x35s fit. they're probably more pricey to buy though.
not sure how much - 50mm? 70mm? ride's great on the KWs although I hear KWs are more compliant than the FKs.
can't fault the KW coilovers for an everyday car, FKs handle better perhaps round the twisties.

cheers, 205/40/17 's are cheap aswell, fair play. Il see what these wheels look like if i get chance on the weekend and if they are ok il get some rubber for them. Il get a pic 2 c what u think. For anyone who is interested there is a cheap set of PI springs on ebay with not long to go, for 1.0, 1.2, 1.4. Just search under polo springs.
