You can, but it wont be easy as youll need adaptor plates and all that to make it compatible

its just not worth changing the box! u will just aswell put a 1.8T in.....if the box couldve been changed then it wouldve been done by now, but its not finances or power gains

tomo's right, why not put a 1.8t engine in, then you can tune it to what you like

I have to agree.
There is more sense in getting a 1.8T. The amount of money and hassle you'll go through of getting a turbo on the standard engine doesn't make sense.
There is someone called NavSK on Clubpolo, I think. He has a gti engine in his MK5 Polo and has strapped a turbo on it. He's gone through so many different types of gearboxes.
Someone also mentioned the VR6. The problem with fitting the VR6 is that it will kill you on fuel and the VR6 isn't as reliable as the 1.8T. Plus the 1.8T is more tunable.

yup, the vr may sound nice but there are gimps out there getting like 400+ bhp out of the 1.8t engine....enough for any FWD polo..mines dangerous as it is.....and dont even bother going out in the wet
p.s adding a type R to the list of my kills today...and it wasnt even close...the best part was it was driven by a little chav c**t....he looked so f****d off when i wized by at 130...gave him a wave as he was shoveling it in the middle lane, i even gave him a head start.....this was all done on my private runway of course

My car is s**t in the wet and that's with 125bhp, never mind a heavy 400bhp tuned VR6 lump up front

a supercharger wont be any different to a turbo...the gearbox wont take the power!!

Yep! Same thing.
Your better of doing a 1.8T conversion or if not, just buy a faster car.
I think a 1.8T conversion costs around £3k-£6k.
I'd say save the money and buy a faster car.
The only reason i've spent money on mine is because I intend to keep it for good.

cant agree more, 1.8T polos are fun...but financially not a good idea!
a lot more factors are involved too rather than just making an engine fit

Alex turbo/superchargin would be extremely pointless!!!!! the power to money spent ration would be a huge difference....Someone supercharged a mk4 1.4 8v and it still only made about 120bhp......but that was with alot spent!!
I seriously doubt the GTI box would take the turbo/super for very long! But i hear the majority of the time it is usually the bearings that go, so maybe if you could upgrade these to some serious heavy duty bad boys then it might be poss.
I want to see an N/A GTI thats on wild cams and throttle bodies

That is the way to go
My latest add to the list of kills is a very proud one

trounced a 106 GTI....both nearly identical specs, i have the straight through exhaust and BMC, he has the straight through exhaust. Had a series of runs and the only times i lost was when i lost my bottle

Good fun!
All done on knockhill race circuit of course
