Looks like one of the gears inside has hit the inside of the casing and creating a fracture.

Gonna definately need a rebuild AND a new casing...BUT...

can anyone tell me if all mk5 and mk4 cases are the same?? so i can change over the gears inside my GTI box into another case?!

you see i told you to look at the casing common vw problem find some one who does alloy welding and get it repaired.

That was my next course of action- find an alloy welder...

Hopefully i don't need to buy a new case, but someone on clubpolo has mentioned that all mk5's share the same front bell housing case...if they do for definate! then i'm good to go...

Does anyone have gear ratio differences between different mk5 boxes?
