I have the 312mm brake conversion underway aswell as part of my 2008 project.

Bits I have..
312mm carriers in red from TT (£80)
Calipers resealed and painted red from Skoda VRS180 (£110)
312mm discs from TT180 Gen Audi (£25)
Mintex extreme pads from GOLF 4 GTI150 (£45)

Possibly will need S3/TT brake hoses - Polo ones might be too short. Anyone know ?

All to go on soon...cant wait as standard brakes are not up to the job IMO.

I also have possibilty of six pot 312mm caliper and carriers to go under 16s... development in progress.

Cheers J

When i did this conversion i found the standered lines were about 2- 3 cm too short.
I used the S3 lines and fitted like a glove.

This is a set of braided lines i had made up to the same as the S3 ones and the standered polo one on the top.
Cheers Rob.

Hi Rob,

I'm sure I have read about your upgrade before thats why I was unsure if the Polo ones would fit.

Hopefully I get the job done this week and sure I will find out..lol

Thanks J

They are not too short, heaps of people have done the same conversion on Seats and Fabias which have the same hoses and never had a problem.

The caliper only moves 12mm further out, and there is plenty of slack in the brake hose after it is clipped to the hub,

Well the 312mm brakes are on and the hoses were long enough, but only just.

The brakes feel good, much more stopping power.

Just need to bed them in and I'm sure they will be even better.

Well worth doing and only took 3 hours start to finish.

Will bleed them again in the morning just to make sure no air trapped in there.

If anyone fancies doing this I know a nice man in Scotland who can supply the parts at good prices.

All in I spent £240 on the mod..so not bad really.

Cheers J

£240 is a very good price for all the kit. Is there no way you can just use the GTI's standard calipers and space them out with the TT/VRS carriers?
I'm sure that's what a lot of the mk4 Golf owners do, are the Polo's hubs very different?

polo and vrs carriers and calipers are the same kind mate

the mk4 owners already have the same caliper that the 312 conversion requires, so they just need to change the carriers to allow for the 312's

where us polo gti owners need the full package changing unfortunately

312's are a massive difference in braking performance, and mine are still getting bedded in, only done about 150 miles on the setup but already its a great difference, and im sure it will get better still too

Luckily you can find plenty of the calipers as they are used on many models like TT, Golf 4 GTI, TDI, Octavia 180 VRS, S3, etc

I looked around and was thinking of just throwing on a second hand set of calipers, but you cannot be sure of their condition.

Thats why I bought refurb items, they were properly refurbed - as good as new, and painted red. The guy can get more made so if anyones interested PM me and I'll give you his number.

I kept costs down by using second hand discs from a TT, genuine Audi hardly used for £12 +postage. Went for a new set standard Mintex pads as found some for £15 +postage.

Really fancy a big set of drilled discs, and might do that yet, but wanted to see what standard TT brakes would be like.

They surely fill out the space behind the wheel.. lol

i got my brake setup in individual parts brand new from vw, vagparts and awesome gti, like more bhp says, you just never know, and brakes should not be skimped on
