IMHO, and this is only MHO, there is no place in todays world for any engine (diesel aside as I'm not too familiar with them) for a petrol engine to be anything less than 16v. We all agree that the 1.4 16v engines of today are much refined, efficient, clean and smoother than say the equivalent 1.9 8v engines 'back in the day'. With the focus today on clean and efficiency, I can't see what benefits there would be in having a 1.2 6v engine over the equivalent 1.2 16v - insurance aside.
16v engines should the basis of many petrol engines these days. Admittedly size of car and design will have an impact on the precise type of engine to fit, but for a car like the Polo (or Fox?) all engines should be 16v of some description. Although I see manufacturers like Renault will at least chuck in a 8v engine - still criminal in this day and age, but just about barely acceptable.
Its like a tractor otherwise, gruff, unwieldy, rough, noisy (under load/acceleration) and just plain wrong
As for the comment about me 'wanting' and 'complaining' - I have no liking for or desire to own a VW. I think they are awful cars, overpriced living off previous reputation. Plus I think FWD cars are the work of the Devil
I'll stick with my BMW 330d Sport and Lexus RX thankyouverymuch.
I joined this Forum because my Mother wanted a Polo automatic. After much searching, found one that she liked and bought it for her.
