I had them on my old Polo. They're
really nice wheels, and they're very subtle if done in a silver finish. On 195/40/16 tyres and lowered 60mm there was no rubbing. Only when I put on 20mm spacers I got a bit of rubbing on the back.
Shame they had to be nicked by some mongfaced pikey scrotes with no respect for private property and a speech impediment. But that's another story.

I'd definitely say get the lips polished.
They won't look anywhere near as good with just a normal painted lip.

Or even diamond-cut
Slightly different finish to mirror-polishing. Basically the wheels are machined, to leave a shiny finish and then are laquered to prevent corrosion. The finish is stunning, and I actually prefer it to mirror polishing:
As seen on my Scirocco's BBS RA's
It's also slightly more durable than a mirror-polished finish, but it still needs care and attention.

You're looking at around £35 a corner for diamond-cutting, powder coat and laquering the wheeels. Diamond cutting is done on a CNC lathe, and yields less imperfections than mirror-polished wheels, and it does look a lot more OEM, and less "bling".
I thought the Mono's were diamond-cut Tim? On their website they are;

RXII's are supplied originally with diamond cut and laquered lips.
The corrosion problem on them is due to water getting under the laquer, which is why a lot of people prefer to go for the polished lip.

So the rim is just polished, no lacquer or anything?

Correct. Although for shine and protection you should ideally use a good quality metal polish like Autosol.

i spent the best part of a weekend polishing the lip myself last summer and it all went down the pan running the wheels through winter!

i thought regular application of autosol would do the job but as i use my car for the daily commute to work unfortunately it wasn't enough! i'd take ollie's advice and go for diamond cut and lacquer... although the short lived polished bling was nice! Ollie i'm pretty interested in the diamond cuttin, could you provide me some more info please... cheers!
oh yea... i'm running 16" BBS RX II's, 195/40/16 no scrubbin with 60/40 drop
