hahaha im in the same boat dude!!! 55hp, worst is about 285 miles to the tank, best was 499.9 miles!!!! it was literally running on fumes tho! constant extremely over careful driving on motorways at 55mph...
now it's foot to the floor coz im bored of a depressing 55mph!!
Quite shocking.. I worked out that if I drive at 55 mph on all the 25,000 miles i do every year, i would spend a certain amount on fuel.
Pushing it hard for the same amount of miles over a year, would cost me over 2 grand more in fuel every year!!!!!!

25K a year? I'm taking it that's motorway miles? Maybe worth investing in a TDi? Around town (heavy traffic), it's not too impressive..35 to 40ish with normal driving. Although combined town and motorway sticking to the speed limits (ie 70 on the motorway), Mid 50s is doable...never less than mid-high 40s if you gun it on the motorway, And the lowest I've seen was 38 MPG on the autobahn (obviously ) at 110...Easy 60+ if you stick to around 60ish MPH...600 miles to a tank anyone?

feck u serious?ive never got more than 350 to a tank!!!do you people change gear at 2000 revs??!?!

my friend has an Ibiza with the 1.2 engine and they say they've always got low-mid 30s MPG which is absolutely shocking for a 1.2.

for the TDI to be economical you have to change at about 2000rpm but they key to high mpg is coasting to junctions and turning your engine off at traffic lights. prediciting the flow of traffic is key to success with MPG, lol

What engine mate? I usually get around 350 miles to a tank, the only reason being that 80% of my driving involves four <2 mile round trips one way to uni in rush hour, without giving the engine a chance to warm up (which on a diesel takes a while) and I always tend to gun it. Heck just stood at the traffic lights, my average MPG drops like 1 MPG every 5 seconds if you get what I mean. Once warmed up though, it's completely different.

I tend to shift at around 3k and cruise at 2.5k on the motorway (70 MPH)...easily do 50+ that way. Full car, ie 4 passengers, full tank and full boot and I managed to do 53 MPG on a 170 mile trip to Peterborough at 65 - 70 MPH.

EDIT: Amen to that David, I remember on that trip accelerating to 80 and then coasting on some slight declines! Was funny overtaking things in the left hand lane at 800 RPM

to get the best mpg i changed at 2500 rmp. any lower would labour the engine, which actually makes it drink petrol more! Obviously as soon as you start approaching the torque / power range of 3000 to 4750 you get less mpg. That being in the 55hp....
Anyone know what the power range is in the 12v? must be something like 4000 to 5000 or something silly?
