I'm already driving like a grandad to get better MPG, I do 350 miles a week just for work and the fuel prices are hurting.
I always aim to hit 60mpg to work, and 50-55mpg from work. 60mpg is hard work but I can still overtake now and then.
big fat tyres don't help. a long journey will usually end up at 50-55mpg.
normal driving in a TDI will usually return 46-52mpg. you have to be careful to get the good mpg. sometimes I think about getting a more modern diesel to really get 70+ mpg.

Anyhow. My meter shows up only litre / 100 kilometers, but I found this conversion table generator which might even be accurate enough.
