My plastic casing ones have been fine so far. I think cheaper ones tend to experience this more

There are metal fronted ones that are ok - its the ends that melt if they arent in a tough enough heatproof plastic as tim says

I had the PIAA sidelights, and a pair of Philips VisionPlus high-beam bulbs, fitted yesterday morning at the local Dealership. Really pleased with how they look but haven't been out yet to test the Philips bulbs at night!

For reference, I was charged £13 per pair of bulbs by my Dealership.
