Picked it up from the garage and very pleased with the level of service.They fitted two new polyurethane wishbone bushes and a track rod end.They also fitted a new sidelight bulb,checked the oil and greased the MAF plug.The bill came to £130 inc VAT and Im very pleased with that especially as the car is now silent.

Sounds reasonable....Now why haven't I got a radio book with the code in well as long as I don't have to unhook the battery I suppose I'll be alright.

We have been lucky as the previous owners, one of which was a vicar seem to have been fairly meticulous

I assume that your fixer thought that the TCA rear bushes looked okay so retro fitted the aftermarket bush insert (powerflex?) to stiffen them up. I just hope they stay in place for you.

You had problems with them powerflex bushes then as this was the next thing I was thinking about doing????

No, just "hear-say" and when you look at what they really are you can see how they could just vanish. I emailed Powerflex directly about these items and all I got back from them was "your workshop will have the correct procedures" - ie they are only importers and know nothing about their products - not impressed!

On the matter of radio security code, if your car has the original radio still fitted (as fitted by the selling VW dealer), the radio will recover okay after the battery is reconnected as it recognise that it is still fitted into its "mother" car - smart eh! Other than that, you will need to present your car and documents that prove you own it, to your local VW garage and they will source the code for you from VW UK. You should be able to buy a radio book complete with an unused card either from VW garage or from Ebay - that is where I bought one after buying a secondhand radio with code. Never, ever, ever buy VW radios with no code because VW have made it impossible for you to get the code - AFAIK there is no easy decode for them, the prom or eeprom needs to be read then the code from that is processed and unscrambled and then procesed again through the generic code busting s/w to give the correct code - its not like Ford/GM etc where the radio s/n is punched into a store of codes to reveal your one. (been there, bought the "correct s/w" - but no one said that you also needed to buy a harness , analyser etc to read the eeprom code first - so no lies were actually told by the seller).

Well its the original vw radio or I've got no reason to believe it isn't. All looks pretty standard anyway. So should be ok if I need to disconnect the battery. Thanks for that. Puts my mind at rest a bit.

Have ordered some powerflex anitroll bar bushes so just hope they stay in place. Am hoping they last longer than originals.

Will be getting the cupra ones for the rear control thing and then the powerflex is the only one you can for the front TCA I believe. Not doing this yet though.

Sorry for the confusion, I was meaning it was the Powerflex TCA rear bush inserts that can pop out - as you are going to use the Cupra ones there is no issue with any of the bushes you are buying "not staying in place". Just to muddy the waters once again, I believe the Audi A2 TCA bushes might fit - they are supplied as spare parts - but I'd suggest you "don't go there" - just either leave your original ones or if you think that you have been driving around for a while with u/s TCA rear bushes then do as you said and fit the Poweflex small front ones.
