My wife's Polo is a 2003MY one in silver, the boot handle started showing signs of corrosion at about two years old, by four years old it was a real mess. I was "lucky" and got a silver one off ebay, it has lasted only another two years before showing signs of corrosion, now its a real mess again! I'm guessing that the aluminium casting is:- made of rubbish quality alloy + probably porous + not properly sealed prior to spraying. I too have noticed a lot of them looking a mess, there must be a proper answer out there somewhere!

Well finally got to car to dealers for the paintwork inspection only to find out that the car has had a new rear quarter in before I owned it, and that all the seams are starting to rust. So there is nothing they can do for me :( . Now the hunt is on for a good body shop that can do the work right this time. Looks like I shall be getting that scirocco sooner rather that later now :D
