agreed, mine has liquid metal sealing it on the bottom (speed hump) because i simply could not remove those bolts near the fly wheel.

Alex, i would appreciate the scan please pal. Also are you 100% sure you dont have to remove the gear box to get it off? i really dont want to be doing that myself.

Is this a viable option?

Leave the threaded bolt in place and seal it up, then use this to extract the oil

ah bugger what a nightmare!

Its due to it being over torqued when fitting a new sump bolt, or reusing the existing one. It is a good idea to always use a new one mind you!

Did you get the scan email dan?

OK, So took my car to my mechanic down the road( well i had to be towed as had no oil :\) . Basically he said that he would drill the old one out and fit a new one... and seemed pretty confident of it aswell. It should be done tommorow so i'll ask exactely what he did. I've done alot of research anyhow and found you can buy self-tapping sump plugs, which are specifically designed for the soft alloy. My main problem was getting the old one out hence why it had to go to a mechanic with the right tools to do it...

I would avoid getting a new sump at all costs! purley becasue when i was breaking my old Gti last year, the sump ( the remains of it!) was the single hardest thing to get off the car.

Ok Guys, Got the car back today, Mechanic had no problem doing it, simply drilled out the old bolt and helicoiled a new one in- it had even done on my car before! Cost £41 in total, inc of labour and parts. not to bad bad but a hefty price for a silly mistake!
