Re: Verity's Reflex Silver GTI *MOT gutted*

Post by Verity »

oh emma I wish he could. im really gutted. if we had of retaped them up when i noticed they were sagging the other day. i probably would have been ok.
but as its gone in for the MOT, the guys have seen the beam aint right and looked at the lights. and seen the bodgeiness of it. now theyve seen this apparently i cant go doing it again as they know its like that. wereas if id sorted it before they wouldnt have had to look into it as much as they have. arrghhh :?

cheers 6n2 GTI 00

That the pic ive been trying to find!
ive looked into fixing them before.
the bits were like £30 each i think (or maybe £30 for the two...i cant quite remember)
and then the cost of having VW fix them. which was over a £100 each i think.
The chap who served me showed me that pic on his computer.
so i walked away with a skip in my step thinking i could jst buy the part. take it apart and fix it.
but apparently its a lot harder then i first thought *sobs*

I can get each for £147 each.
i keep trying to consol myself by thinking about the fact that one day I wanted to change the lights as the ones I have are really weathered...i just thought it was a daydream tho and that i never really would.

do you think im being silly? I dont know what to do. They have been ordered and will arrive Sat. i dont have to pay until they arrive so i technically can still back out of buying them. I jst really want my car back :(

do you recone I would be able to sell the old ones as broken? (being completely honest of course!) just for a few quid. rather then just scrapping them
or do you recone it would be worth trying to fix them myself and selling them on for more as working. and then if i completly screw up i can just bin them.

I would say they are special order and wont be returnable so you may have to buy them on parts like that

If the brackets are gone AND the adjusters inside are broken, for the hassle of having to replace the brackets, buy cheap headlamps to salvage the parts from, split both sets of headlamps and then mix and match, its easier (albeit more costly) to just bite the bullet and get the new ones. They have been revised so they wont break again (it was due to a fault in the plastic, but newer sets have a different mix of plastic for the adjusters so they arent fragile)

I think they're worth it just to see the shine... They look so new. I thought mine were in decent condition until I saw these!

Yeah that isnt a bad price in fairness, If I had just a normal 6N2 these would be first on my list!
I could do with some new lenses but unfortunately you can't buy them separately :(

New Headlights

Finally got my car back today. It feels so good to drive it again. :D
Went through the MOT fine (other then the headlights)

Image

£166.85 - VW Parts (brake pads, ect)
£345.46 - VW Headlight
£150.00 - MOT, CV boot put on and headlights in at Garage

All worth it tho

Image

Annoyingly it's raining really hard so its hard to get any decent photos.
you can pretty much see compared to the sidelights how much better they look :D
im gonna have to save for new sidelights and fog lights now i think

I am also ordering some of this...

Image

Its Paintowrk Protective film
Im sure some of you have seen it before. Its a bit like a screen protector on you mobile phone. but bigger.
After ages of searching I found a UK website that sells rolls of it.
im just getting a little bit to go on my headlights. then eventually when i get my bumper and bonnet resprayed ill have the whole front end done professionally

Looking Good :D New Headlights look awesome, im well jealous 8)
Little Westie in the window made me laugh

Yeah as Emma said it might be worth getting some headlight protectors for your new Xenons.
They do look a little weird with those fitted though, maybe the film will do the job and look better?

Hiya just been reading about ur headlights... Defo sell them on as ul still get a bit of money for them. I bought a set which all brackets were broken and the adjusters were broken- paid £37 and I'm more than happy. Managed to make some new brackets for them, and as for the adjusters.... I'm not really that fussed tbh :) managed to temporarily hold the light up. So the beam is pretty much as it should be. I get my mots done by a friend so I'm sure itl pass. But just wanted to say that u should defo sell them. There's even a way to use the adjusters out of the standard 6n2 headlights and fit them into the gti headlights. Stick them on eBay huni xx

Cheers Emma! Its so so so frustrating. im hoping he goes easy on me in the next few months and doesnt go wrong in anyway.
I cannie decide if i like the protectors or not. my mate had some on her mk4 openair when she brought it and neither of us were to keen. which is really silly of me I, considering you cant really see them all that much when theyre on.
