Don't be con'd into buying shortened shocks either. Overpriced and pointless, any good quality gas-charged shocks will be more than adequate.

My old Mk3 GT was down 70mm with Kayaba Ultra SR shocks for 2 years with no problems (until it was written if by the next owner)

Well, on 9ns anyway, shorter shocks may be a good idea if you want to go lower than 35mm, the limit of our OEM shocks. But if you don't want to go lower than that, you're fine.

Once you buy some decent springs and decent shock absorbers, it ends up sosting close (or even more) than some coilover setups.

The shocks are fine, so springs will do! Dont really want to go any lower than -35mm as you said Ash!

Or get springs and wait for shocks to go. That's the pikey way

You do realise back in the day the -35mm Eibach Pro kit was actually available from the dealers? It was the official "lowering kit" or whatever and was meant to be used with stock shock absorbers...

Yer I know ash but what I'm saying is lower it the 50mm and wait for the shocks to give up before replacing them. The shocks will think there is a full car all the time. Prob last a year or two. My gf arosa ones were fine.

May as well just replace the standard when they die. Probably only last 6/12months less than shortened ones anyway, particularly if they're good gas charged ones

My bad Graham. You wouldn't want to lower it to 50mm on standard shocks anyway...on uprated dampers, yes, but by the time you've spent £££ on springs and uprated dampers, you may as well have bought coilies in the first place!

Fair point but it's not in one lump buying spring then waiting for shocks bit later. I have coil overs and know how much they take as a lump sum.
