Ive not ben in a 6N2 Polo with TA Technix coilovers so cannot comment on your current ride quality, but i know Weitec Hicon GT's are a farely comfortable coilover. They're dampening is rated at 30% stiffer than OEM shocks so i found them quite stiff at first but with regards and comparision to other coilovers ive found them the most comfortable in a 6N2 so far (Coilovers within a simular price range). As you're already used to the harder shocks, they could be an option to go for.
Where abouts are you located, could possibly take you out in my car?.

I'm running Spax RSX coilovers on mine which have the advantage of adjustable damping settings but to be honest all coilovers are pretty harsh on UK roads and they are certainly more suited for track use.
The reason the majority of people opt for coilovers over lowering springs is simply down to the fact that the standard ride height on all model Polo's is far too high compared to other hatchbacks.
My car handles really well on the Spax coilovers but the ride is very harsh and can get annoying at times.
With coilovers you cant really have a nice relaxing drive because your always on the look out for potholes, speed reducers, speed bumps etc and that does really annoy me more than anything else.
I will never get coilovers again for any other car but to be honest most cars simply dont need them.
The downside to the Polo GTI is the standard suspension is absolutely terrible and the ride height is just far far too high.
When I first bought the GTI I was expecting good things from the handling but it just felt dangerous in the corners and seemed to understeer for fun.
I reckon the best option for the GTI or any 6N2 is the H&R 60/40 Cup Suspension kit and a set of 16" rims.
That kit gives the car a very nice & practical ride height whilst offering a very good handling improvements.
If you want pure performance then good quality coilovers are your best bet but expect a rough ride.
Even a £2000 set of coilovers wont be "comfortable".
The roads by where I live are pretty terrible which certainly doesnt help things but If I had the choice again I would go for a good quality shocks & springs set up.

The quality of my ride atm with the TA Technix is bearable. I can live with it. Its the fact that under exuberant driving, the arches catch on the tyres and it'll scrape all the way to the police station. Thats my main concern. The car isnt THAT low..
