SiDaBa... it was just one of those things, today, down the A5.. just wanted to truck along at what would probably be bang on the limit (car starts to get noisy after indicated 62-63, which after various adjustments is closer to real 60). People dawdling ahead through mild bends and holding up everyone else in a queue behind with no care to NOT flooring it randomly on straights, whilst those behind as i tried to overtake and then resume cruising wanted to do 70 or more :D... whom I *tried* to accomodate.
((Yes, you in the red Rover 45 that held up a half mile line at 40mph for a solid 10 minutes, including two horseboxes and a knackered ford 3 ton flatbed, and flashed lights at everyone who beeped whilst passing... you in the Rolls with no care for the peons behind... and Mr Toyota Man of the oddly variable speed, 25 in the mild twisties, 7-effing-5 on the straights))

Oh well... for every person thinking they're driving at the right speed there's a "codger" in the way in front and a "madman" a few feet off the bumper behind. Both thinking the same thing :) (does it make any difference if you actually are driving the limit though?)

Still going to get behind any national protest against the cats eye and mile-off cameras though, that sort of trickery just isnt on. There's no need for it and the money would be far, far, far better spent elsewhere seeing as it's more or less proved now that camera speed "enforcement" has near-zero impact on safety, especially compared to, say, equivelent money spent mildly re-engineering a blackspot.

(Here's an idea - there are almost 2 million camera speeding fines sent out every year (figure that as a percentage of the driving population and feel your jaw drop, it's only set to increase). That's a hell of a lot of administration even if it's automated with just some auditors and techs about. If everyone, or even 10% say, refuses to pay their fines however, or does gonzo things in the paying... eg fifty cheques for one pound each instead of one for fifty (preferably just refusing to pay on the grounds "this is stupid" for any offense demonstrably not the act of a nutter)... think of the headache that would cause. Enough that some traffic officers may come back on the beat?
Or possibly an organised lot of 10,000 motorists pissed off enough to do "something" with the equipment. You don't need to damage the things remember... if you can block them off in a way that won't easily be detected for a while that's enough... thats still a lot of work, a lot of man-hours to be paid for, to put it right)

My mate got caught doing 50mph in a 30 zone twice within the hour cus he thot that it was a 50mph zone (dummy!)

he only had his licence for 18 months and so he lost it. he has to reapply for provisional, resit theory and practical tsts!

what a bummer that is!

I can understand the reasoning behind them only allowing 2 convictions for new drivers, it is a good incentive not to behave like a lunatic before you're experienced.. but even so I think it's a bit harsh. It really needs at least to be flexible.. for example an awful lot of new drivers don't do more than a couple of thousand miles a year borrowing their parents cars, so they're highly unlikely to be caught even if they're terrible drivers and aren't gaining anything like as much experience as someone who does about 10,000 miles a year and has driven practically every day since their test.. Personally I think it'd be better to say that you can have up to a certain amount of points for every (x) miles that you travel, it'd just make it a much fairer system..

Sounds good... though I think leniency for certain things that are more likely to be caused by an inexperienced chap would also be sensible (not knowing your speed limits though, thats something you should have down at least on the day of the test..!)

Now, yknow.... there's always a lot of blankets and bedsheets going spare and cheap at charity shops. Just perfect for throwing over a gatso. Even if its a thin one that doesnt totally blind it, it's hard to focus through such a cover (for a truvelo) and it would diffuse the flash a lot (for a trad one) maybe to the point where it spoils any film inside or snowblinds the digital sensor. Plus it doesnt cause permanent damage so there's probably no criminal charge that can be brought.
Hows that for some nonviolent protest?

There is the criminal approach to destroying a speed camera. Jeremy Clarkson was in a spot of bother for mentioning this over the waves of radio 2. Apparently if you use expanding foam, well you can suss the rest out, and where to put it as well.

Suffice it to say the camera equipment will be unsalvageable, but then again, I didn't hear any of what JC said...

haha 4paws talking about cutting it close to being banned !!

I got done when i first started driving on those mobile digital camera's, the sneaky bar-steward hid behind a big red van and got me doin 56 in a 40 . . . Screwin !!!!!!

Recently i raced this unmarked police car around where i live, we went through red lights and everything, only to find out when we stopped it was an Unmarked police car, suffice to say the cops laughed their asses off and if it wasnt such a 'funny race' i reckon i would have got instantly banned, especially when they pointed out that they had recorded everything on the front facing camera.

DOH !!

Anywayz they decided on a new scheme, i had to sign the 'Dangerous Drivers book' at my local police station, If my car gets seen out after midnight, it automatically gets pulled over by police, they dont even need a reason anymore, which can be annoying.

Ive also managed to race CID in a Merc, won though :¬P also raced a proper police car on the A127, Essex police are the Nads i tell ya !

they all love a good race.
