To be fair, you can't expect a dealer to drop 2 weeks of booked work and then give you a courtesy car immedeately (waiting time is usually 3 weeks alone).
Just a thought
If there is a problem with a Back Order part, they can expedite it and then they can give you a car until the part comes off back order, but otherwise you'll just have to wait (or have a word with the salesman who sold it to you, perhaps he'll loan you a sales car?).

mebbe not a for-sale car but perhaps a demonstrator... or an approved-used one, i thought most dealers these days had racks of the things outside on the forecourt

That’s a good point, but I only took it in for them the to "check" because I thought there was something up with my car. They came out told me the news and also said "We cant let you drive it away" so I was firmly up s**t creek with out a paddle
I get to see if the car will be ready today... I phoned them up and they said midday today (Tuesday) lets see if they can get my car on the road.

how many 1000 miles you done so far? not even 30k wasn't it? rip off
fair enough, the part's cheap, but if you're not under warranty they'll do you for labour on that which will be £££!!
mebbe you should offer to sell it back to them in exchange for the nicest one you can find of the used lot..... you get a nearly-new car with a guarantee, immediately, they get all the hassle of fixing yours and trying to sell it on.

(and it's gonna be sitting in the way with no engine power for a week, too)
or buy the nearest, cheapest mk2 and invoice them for that as if there's no courtesy car available, they should be willing to cover the cost of hiring something, spesh as the car isn't anywhere near old enough for you to have to suffer such a major breakdown (hmm... could go to Hertz instead... get taxis/trains with receipts...)

Dare you to drive it hard enough that the head breaks on that as well

(2 and a half thousand revs of useful power? that's a lot for a diesel aint it?

)

I think they should mod the lupo and drop an R32 in the back like the old metro 630 thingy...
3.4 twin terbo in a metro shell :s (stupidly modded like) got baned from the Rally as it was a tad too nippy
