I can get about 44 MPG quite easily as its only the last 5 miles or so that i'm in built up areas.
Once got it up to 48 MPG but I am talking some seriously anal driving here, just wanted to see how far I could push it!
Wow, is that a GTI bluemotion?
I struggle to get that out of the family Golf GTD !!

aha
I am talking like seriously boring driving here, over the three days I did it covering 280 miles I didn't go over 3000rpm, coasted to a standstill at junctions etc anticipated the road braking as little as possible, most of the journey I was just sitting in lane 1 on the motorway.
Don't get me wrong normal driving around town etc I normally get around 37 MPG.
I don't think any one buys a Gti for the fuel economy but my daily commute is such a boring route I wondered much I could really get out of it!

Blimey! Absolute max i can get is just over 40, can replacing the lambda sensors help increase/ restore the MPG somewhat? I changed one on a 1.8t and it made a bit of difference...

I don't think replacing a fault free lamda will do anything tbh. My car ran fine but wasn't brilliant on fuel. Then I had a starting problem out of the blue, did some digging and found the boken wires on the car side of the wiring. Its common on these so worth a peek.
Long story short, better mpg post repair

I'm only getting about 28MPG on average!
I live in Milton Keynes though and only have a short commute to work, usually about 7 miles.
Would this be a problem or just the usual? Its all stop start town driving.

I average about 30 but never get long motorway runs. Always in the country lanes or town roads.

I've never really had a short stop start week to take an average mpg from it in those conditions.
I'd fill it up and do a long stretch just for the crack on a m/way. It'll do the car good too! Fill it up again and see what's its done.

I've had 30-40 miles minimum on red light. I tend to not leave it too long before filling up on reserve.
