Pressed metal number plates..

It's a risk as car owner you take. If you want a compromise, you can now get acrylic plates with raised lettering that look smart.

I second the acrylic raised plates, no room for any error there. Demon plates served me well and were happy with a scanned copy of docs emailed to them. Took 2 days.

Also I went for the blue GB on the end of the plate as I understand it if you don't have this and want to drive in Europe then you will need an additional white oval GB sticker. I value my paintwork and the overall clean look of the car without any stickers.

I must admit the raised acrylic ones on demon plates look awesome! I'm getting those instead next month, what are peoples thought on the "carbon effect" ones? Tacky or not? I think they look quite tasty

Luckily I saw both carbon & non-carbon in real life on cars a week or so before I ordered. For me I think it was a bit OTT and for the extra cost with a little dirt on hardly noticeable. On a plain black GTI kept as clean as possible, I think black looks best. If you've got a white car with carbon wrap on the roof or some of the plastics then I think it would go. All a case of personal taste I suppose.

Hmm very true, mine is just a white r line, quite clean looking no stickers etc. I'll probably just go for black, I could imagine the carbon looks pretty cheap in person!
