It's that easy... When your done bleed your brakes n take it steady for 100miles or so!!

With two of us it took about an hour to fit. So long as you have the right tools and common sense its easy enough. If your not confident working on your own brakes, maybe hand it to your mechanic to do, should cost around £50 extra. Not something you want to get wrong.
Tools needed:
All wheel removal
Axle stands and jack
18mm socket for callipers
11mm spanner for brake lines
Tubs to catch old fluid
T10 I think.. To remove disc retaining screw
Brake bleed kit and new brake fluid
A mate to help when bleeding brakes
A hammer if old discs are seized on hub

Think thats it. The calliper bolts take quite a lot of effort to loosen but apart from that and spilling brake fluid everywhere (avoid getting it near paint) it's not too hard.

Got to You tube n type 'golf mk4 disc change', couple of vids on there that will give you a good idea of what's involved.

Thats what I did , all went pretty smooth, hardest thing for me was getting the wheel off !!! I had to hit it that hard I thought it was gonna come off the axle stands.

That upgrade looks good! think that will be next purchase once the christmas crunch has passed!

Mine are being done soon, 17" S3 Wheels, 312mm TT discs and carriers with standard GTi [9n3] calipers and I am informed they are good to stop the Stage 1 map [200 bhp], will get some pics up when they are sorted.

Daz are you sure that will work? And if it does surely you are not going to be increasing the breaking force as you will still have the same contact you did on the 288s as the pads still have the same surface area?

Cheers for that Dan, I will double check with my spanner man. I nearly bought a Clio RS 200 I think when I jotted down that configuration, I am better now though.

256mm i believe

Yup the 256mm is the upgrade that most people use on the polos for the rears

can you use calipers for 312mm fronts off a mk5 golf gti

not sure.. I heard people use calipers off the 280mm and change carriers.. theres a few cheap sets of 312mm caliper and carrier sets just get them sand blast and re paint?
