Petrol technology is beginning to surpass diesel and these new smaller turbo charged petrols are beginning to outgun diesel on economy. Diesel is a dying breed, small charged petrol is where the development money is going.

Petrol economy seems to be getting very good - in the EU test. My less than scientific testing (same route, driving in eco mode and going for may econ) So far my best is 54.9 on the BGT and I managed 65 in a 2.0 GT Derv golf. So I'd say the oil burner still wins there .

Boot it in the BGT on the other commute route and its 34 .

Oh it is good. Much better than the previous cars 28. It strikes a good balance between performance and economy and overall I do like the DSG - it just works 99% of the time, and the odd time it does something frustrating can be forgiven for all the easy, swift progress it allows.

@tomtoon2015 dont get me wrong, the DSG works very well the vast majority of the time. Sure you will love your new car when you get it.
