Ok so thats one of the worst quotes I've ever got but still the others weren't that low either.

0 years NCB

my insurance is £450-ish I'm with Norwitch Union Direct. They were the best out of all the people I looked at. Without the pass plus it would have been about £1,000.
Even at £1,000 that was my lowest quote.

Heh, yeah know what you mean,

Im 24 and 4NCB and insured on my runabout 'CL' for only £280 fully comp! Live in the sticks which helps abit. The G40 race costs me £580 TPFT aswell!

That was deffo NINE GRAND not nine hundred?!

Sheeeeeiiiit :lol: :lol: I guess they've finally landed a rep with the insurers :D.... no wonder Citroen was (is?) running a free-insurance deal - and there must be plenty on the market second hand dirt cheap when the deal period runs out :D :D

The insurance costs are seriously putting me off a Polo, I thought it would be cheap motoring, odviously not, I may just buy another Beetle.

it's inexpensive, certainly.... cheap, i dunno (but is a beetle cheap either?!)

if you want cheap, get a corsa/nova, cinquecento or an old fiesta, you'll never be wanting for parts, the 900cc fiestas/novas/cinqs will run on fresh air almost (i think the 1991 900cc fiesta got about 60-65mpg at 90kmh?), and the insurance is dirt cheap.

if you want a slightly more pleasing, and still "inexpensive" experience (though hardly luxury OR cheap!) with a body, engine, gearbox and brakes that aren't going to even start crumbling before the machine's 15th (20th?) birthday in normal use - get the polo :D its a nice drive (once you get used to the small mk3 servo, and the total lack of in a mk2), not an air cushion but comfy enough, fully-manual but still easily handled controls, fairly quick and safe, reasonable economy... and built like a brick outhouse.

im wondering whether its merely the small amount of prestige carried through from the higher selling costs from new that account for the car's groups 4 thru 8 (for CL and GT) insurance, compared to groups 1 thru 5 for similarly powerful nova/festa/cinqs.... after all, now that the base values are pretty much all the same as each other, which ones are more likely nowadays to be owned by barries that cant drive worth toffee?

I'll have to back up what Tahrey1043 said. Mines had 14 years and 125000 miles on the original clutch that isn't too bad! (unfortunately it's just died in a big way tho :cry: )

mine was good for nothing by 70k, and there's chance even that one wasn't original :)
still impressed by the car though - due to it's age (13+ yrs) there's plenty of "consumables" (belts, clutch, tyres, plugs, oil, battery, brake pads, leads, bearings, exhaust backbox etc) that you have to pay to be replaced on the by-and-by due to standard wear and tear, like with any car, but very little major, expensive structural stuff. *fingers crossed touching wood* nothing's had to be done to the engine, no body welding, transmission is fine, only had to have one shock absorber replaced.... after hitting a big bump far too fast and cracking it!
((well, there is the matter of the fuel tank - common problem :( - and that the rear brakes had to be completely done over when i bought it because they'd seized with rust, but it does appear that the previous owners may have parked on a floodplain at some point and the rear end got submerged... the body has underseal, but of course, the brake drums do not! even so - those parts should be good for another 13 and 11 years respectively...))

i was paying £750 fully comp on a 1l mk3 with 1 ys no claims, and now i have my gt it went up bout £40, mad ay. that was norwich union.

Norwich, Endsleigh and Direct Line all seem like good bets if you're getting rubbish quotes elsewhere (and believe me, I have too - more than £1000 extra for the same car with the same cover benefits... eg AA, Lloyds*, Churchill, Admiral, Elephant etc). They give something which can still seem quite high, but is sensible at least, and with a usable level of cover rather than just a note giving you legal authorisation to drive..

*Lloyds are cheeky enough to advertise as giving you big savings :shock:
