In answer to the OP's question; yes! I am 51 and wanted the GTI's engine, but not the look. Solution: Blue GT + DTUK box = +/- 190hp 8)

Funnily enough, whilst I don't have a Polo (the wife has a Blue GT), but instead a MK7 Golf GTD, I was very recently thinking the same thing. I turned 52 yesterday, and have for a few weeks now been asking myself if I looked ridiculous as a 50+ year old driving a hot(ish) hatch. I was wondering if at my time of life I should be in a Jag or a Lexus for instance.

Then I thought sod it, it's my car and I love it and I may look 50, but certainly don't feel it inside and until I do, I will be driving what ever car I want (providing I can afford it).

This thread is quite interesting - we have a lot of members that are much older than I for one imagined they were

Long live diversity in Polos :D

Would you guys mind me asking how much your insurance is? I'm almost 36, so no spring chicken, but I'm getting quotes for around £400! That's a lot more than what I'm currently paying on my 14 year old Golf GTI!

I'm 41 and my 2013 GTI cost me about £250 to insure with protected 7y NCB on a 5000mile per year average.

You're never too old one of my relatives had a Golf GTI into his 80s.

Definitely not too old, but according to my insurance, can definitely be too young! Thats why I at 18 went for the 1.4 GT over the 1.8 GTI :D

You can't look too old in a GTi…you can however look too old in a Fiesta ST. :)

I think this is probably the line where you really are trying too hard. The attraction of the Polo is that it's a nice place to be for most of normal life - but with the ability to provide some real speed when needed. My wife will never be a hooligan driver but she will use the acceleration to get safely into gaps in fast-moving traffic. She feels much safer because she has both the 'go' and 'stop' sorted for her needs in the Polo. :)

I was 55 when I bought my Clio RS 200, I am now 61 and enjoying my Blue GT. In a couple of years time I have every intention of buying a Golf R. So no, you are never too old for a GTI.
