It does seem a shame that we are using these car discount/brokers in that way, and I can include myself as being someone that has done that, but there must be enough people out there that stick with them as they (the customer) can not be bothered, or does not have the bottle to haggle. In the past I've always found that VW dealers said a price and basically you could pay up or walk away, this is the first time that I have tried to prepare better by getting a realistic target price and then walked in with complete car spec and price, all neatly presented typed up - and stood back waiting for an answer, which in my case came within 10 minutes, so deal done!

I am no stranger to going for the better deal, my previous two cars came from Holland, first one via a broker based in Holland, the second one from a willing VW dealer in Holland. If there still existed good trading conditions for us in UK to buy in Europe, I would have done it again, but it seems that very few if any VW dealers are willing to take on UK RHD orders, probably once again VW AG is playing hard ball in as much as they used to still with a dealer's supply quota, if that dealer took in 5 UK RHD orders in one month, next month's quota would be dropped by that amount just to try to hurt them.

Mind you, the day that I placed the order for each of my imported VWs, I did visit local VW dealers and gave them a spec and price which included my travelling costs, just in case they were willing to grab my order, they could not get anywhere near the price that I would be paying - including all costs and VAT, savings in 2000 were roughly 25% and in 2002 about 20% - a lot of the savings were in factory options prices as VW UK are bandits when it comes to special orders and options.

Even though my car had already been ordered and waiting for build week they matched the quote from car wow so it's all good
